UK Tax Configuration

Hi,

I need a little help on making the tax appear on the checkout.

I think I've amended everything correctly in admin.

But still the tax (VAT) @17.5% still doesn't show up whilst going through the checkout.

Any ideas??

Surely if the code needs to be hacked then there is a bug?

I have a similar problem: here is an example.

Pre Tax Price = ?100

VAT = 17.5%

Post Tax = ?117.50

This is shown correctly in the products admin when adding the product (i.e. the javascript gets it right)

Prices are not displayed in the catalog with VAT as this needs to be show as a seperate sub total at the end

However when you get to checkout it shows:

Sub-Total: ?100.00

17.5: ?14.89

Flat Rate (Best Way): ?7.95

Total: ?109.34

Several points are raised here:

1. It should say VAT not 17.5:

2. ?100 + 17.5% is ?117.50 NOT ?14.89

3. VAT is added to the shipping correctly (?1.39) and added to the total but NOT shown

4. the ?14.89 even though shown is not added to the total.

If I swap around the order and make display Shipping = 2 and Tax = 3 (i.e. swap them around) I get the following:

Sub-Total: ?100.00

Flat Rate (Best Way): ?7.95

17.5: ?14.89

VAT: ?1.39

Total: ?109.34

This looks better as at least VAT is shown (the VAT on the shipping) but the product VAT is still wrong, and still labeled as 17.5 and is still not even adding the incorrect value to the total.

What it actually appears to be doing is taking ?100 dividing it by 1.175 and then mutliplying it by the $tax_multiplier figure of 0.175.

(NET / 1.175) * 0.175

When all it really needs to do is:

NET * 0.175 = TAX AMOUNT

NET + TAX AMOUNT = TOTAL or NET * 1.175

Any help would be appreciated.

1. It should say VAT not 17.5:

Go To Admin>Locations/Taxes>Tax Rates>New Tax Rate

The Settings should be:

Tax Class Title:Taxable Goods

Tax Rate: 17.5000

Description:VAT

Priority:0

2. ?100 + 17.5% is ?117.50 NOT ?14.89

?85.11 + 17.5% = ?100

17.5% of ?85.11 is ?14.89

Your Total Price of ?100 is inclusive of tax and so the amount of tax charged in that ?100 is ?14.89

17.5: ?14.89
should say VAT:?14.89 which is how much VAT has been charged

I would suggest making your shipping non taxable therefore the price shown for shipping is inclusive of tax, so the cost you charge to ship you goods is exactly what the customer pays

You can change this in admin>modules>shipping>

Edit the shipping methods you use so that the tax class=NONE

If you then goto Admin>Modules>Order Total

Change to the following

Tax:1

SubTotal:2

Shipping:3

Total:4

It will look like:

VAT: ?14.89

Sub-Total: ?100.00

Shipping: ?9.34

Total: ?109.34

I know it looks a bit confusing with the VAT at the top as customers might think that VAT hasnt been added so you could change it so it says:

Amount charged in VAT ?14.89

SubTotal Inclusive of VAT ?100.00

Shipping: ?9.34

Total: ?109.34

The only other way is to install the VAT Display contribution & goto Admin>configuration>Display Prices with Taxes:False

Change Admin>Modules>Order Total to

SubTotal:1

Shipping:2 (which will be exclusive of tax)

VAT:3

Total:4

So it will look like

SubTotal:?85.11

Shipping:?7.95

VAT:?16.28

Total:109.34

Hope this gives you a better idea ;)

I would tend to agree with you, but the part that is throwing me off is that I have "Display prices Including Tax" = Off

Therefore you would be correct if the prices *included* tax, but they do not. If I change the setting to say that they *do* include tax, everything works, but the incorrect prices are then diplayed/

I added the Switch-1.5 Modification some time ago, I suspect this to be the culprit.
