Ady
Been making various changes on the site recently, and would appreciate some feedback on what people think of it. Nowhere near fully populated with DVD titles yet, currently only have about 400 on there, so about another 16,000 to go....anyone care to take over whilst I get some sleep? lol The load time may be a little long, but been visiting a few other dvd sites on the net and only a handful of those are actually what I would describe as really fast. Comments on this please, as its hard to appreciate what 56k users have to deal with when viewing sites. The link for 'View All Products' will be split into pages when i get chance as it currently lists all in one go. Not good for search engines I believe plus tends to make the page rather long. What about the DVD graphics? Thought I would try and get away from the normal flat picture and make them a little different. Does that work for anyone? Leave you to it..thanks Ady. agiftcodotcom
I like it, very pleasing to the eyes. My only thought would be about the scrolling marquee. Most "click-happy" internet type aren't going to be patient enough to watch it scroll by. So, since you have a featured products area, I would say to just remove the marquee all-together, or replace it with still images of your very best movies. Other than that, looks great! braclark
One thing I've noticed is that on the e-bay auction page, the e-bay auction info box is there. You should put an if statement in so that doesn't happen. I kind of like the scrolling display. I sat there and watched it for a while. That's all I have. Good luck. phooey04
Very clean and professional. Load times on a cable modem aren't bad at all ;) I would add product descriptions when you get time. Having them will help you in your search rankings. Good luck with the store.

IMAGES_SIZE - The total size of your images is 104831 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS. SCRIPT_SIZE - The total size of your scripts is 5101 bytes, which is over 4K. Consider optimizing your scripts for size, combining them, and using compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents. CSS_SIZE - Caution. The total size of your external CSS is 7019 bytes, which is above 1160 bytes and less than 8K. For external files, try to keep them less than 1160 bytes to fit within one higher-speed TCP-IP packet (or an approximate multiple thereof). Consider optimizing your CSS and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.
Ady
Thanks for all the comments, they are appreciated. Not quite sure about the scrolling marquee...it kind of helps the page not to be just 'static'. I didnt have it before, and it felt like the page just sat there with no life to it. I will add the ebay logo problem onto my list of to dos..thanks for that. Product descriptions are to come...still trying to figure out the standard layout I want for each one before committing to it. The load time was my major concern...The problem is with the scrolling marquee I think...thats 13 images avg 5k each, thats 65k its gotta load in just for that alone....but then again, on my screen, everything else is loaded in before the marquee, so the main page content is there quite quickly anyway....then the scrolling starts anyway whilst the remaining images are being loaded..so the load time isnt that noticeable anyway...I hope lol Still got a lot to do...its hard trying to balance out priorities which to do first...add more titles, add release dates to each title, add product descriptions...the list goes on.....without EasyPopulate, this just couldnt be attempted, so thanks to the author of that, its an amazing utility...no one should be without it. Thanks again for all your comments Ady. AVMDVDs

Ady
Hi, I only deal with general DVD wholesalers, not any specialising in certain types of titles. What you are probably better off doing is ringing a few of the bigger wholesalers and asking them the best way to find out where to source such titles from. Other than that write to the publisher of some of the DVDs in question and ask them who their distributors are and go from there. Sorry cant be of any more help Ady. Guest
Site looks good. I'm in the process of getting rid of the 'vanilla' OSC site myself :) I think the thing that takes the longest is adding the items to the shop. I've got about 400 in my store now, but all with descriptions etc. I do like the template you have for the cast, director, etc. Coldclimber, it took me nearly 6 months to find a decent and reliable supplier. I had one that gave a new company an account, but charged way too much and making a profit was impossible. Then I went with one that was extremely cheap, but they were unbelievably unreliable (get what you pay for). Most studios won't deal with you unless you buy a certain amount. The key seemed to be 25,000. Either 25,000 products/month, or $25,000/week. I am still looking for suppliers. I see the people selling first run/new release DVDs for $12.99 on eBay and I have to wonder what they are buying them at. Or more importantly, where! :) Good luck to you! Ady
Thanks for the comments. I agree the hardest thing is getting the products into the store. I use an Access database and then save the file out to upload with EasyPopulate. Even so, its still takes an unbelieavable amount of time. Then theres all the images etc...sometimes wonder of I am in the right job lol It took me a while to get the Cast, Director thing working etc and I finally finished it yesterday. Thats why none of the info is populated yet apart from on Cross Of Iron where you can see it working properly...ie, click on Cast/Director name etc and bring up a list of all the movies they starred in. I live in the UK and its quite easy here to get a supplier...I use only a handful of about 4 or 5 and none of them insist on such huge orders as you have to buy. They just impose a min spend per order of ?75 (about $130?) which is nothing compared to your minimum of $25k lol I keep thinking that I need to do more to the store, but really I should be getting on populating it with products, but I always think if I just do this one little change here and this change there it will make it that little bit better....but then I end up spending another week on it and in that time I could have probably got another 1000 products on there. lol.....time to step back from the development now I think and concentrate on making some money. Thanks again Ady. www.avmdvds.com
