Guest
Hello all, I have been a silent observer in these forums for a little while but now i need some help. Since its my first post please be gentle  My website has been spidered by 4 search engines so far (google, crawl, intokmi, and one called robot) but all of them are only making 3 hits! these are the index page which is a frames page, the catalog directory (actually its solutions) and the page in the bottom of the frames page (bottom.htm). Is there some reason why the bots aren't drilling deeper into my catalog files. have i set something up wrong or is something tripping them up? would it have something to do with SIDs? any help would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance, edwin. P.S. website is here http://www.inquisitivemind.com.au (frames page) or catalog is here http://www.inquisitivemind.com.au/solutions/
chfields
You may want to install the allprods contribution
wizardsandwars
I wouldn't worry about the allprods as much as the Meta Tag contribution. Most search engines the see static title tags across all pages will only index the topmost page. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. HyperJack
How old is your site?
wizardsandwars
HyperJack brings up a good point. You should not expect to be indexed for up to a full 3 months. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. Guest
Hi thanks all for the quick replies! My site is not very old, actually its only been up since mid june... BUT the three pages i mentioned above have already been indexed and if you search for inquisitive mind solutions in google im at the top of the page. http://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid=n...+mind+solutions. ill try and install both contributions when i get home tonight. by allprods do you mean the contribution http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,137 or the forum mod http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...hlight=allprods thanks again everyone! :P
HyperJack
I think he's referring to the contribution. It creates a page with individual links to all of your products. Making a complete site map would help too. Since your site has only been up for a month or so, I wouldn't be worried. wizardsandwars
However, with your site as it is currently constructed, no search engines will *ever* index more than your top most page because all of your titles are exactly the same. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. TB
Your biggest issue is the fact that you've put your site in a frame. Frames are like a big GET LOST to search engines! If you read about the reputable search engines and optimising software, you will get the same informaton. HTH, Tony "The price of success is perseverance. The price of failure comes much cheaper." Guest
does the allprods contributions do the same as what i have done here: http://www.inquisitivemind.com.au/solution...with_images.php and if i create a page that simply refreshes into the /solutions/ directory (as suggested in a diffrent thread) will search engines not like this either. If this is correct then how can i make www.inquisitivemind.com.au open in the directory www.inquisitivemind.com.au/solutions directory in a search engine friendly way? I will add the meta tag contribution tonight so that each page is different. thanks guys!

Guest
*bump* sorry just read forum rules and realised this is against the policy. Sorry!
burt
However, with your site as it is currently constructed, no search engines will *ever* index more than your top most page because all of your titles are exactly the same. I'm not sure if this is correct. I have Oscommerce pages listed on Google and Altavista which have the exact same title on each and no meta tags at all. burt
Edwin. My opinion for what it's worth: 1. Install the allprod.php contribution and link to it from your default.php page. 2. Install a SIDkiller script which stops spiders chewing through your bandwidth 3. Install some sort of Meta Tag contribtion (there are two or three to choose from) 4. Make your title for each page of product_info.php something like: buy product name at yoursite.com where product name depends upon the product being seen 5. Submit to Google and Dmoz. 6. Wait for a month after submitting. 7. Check www.google.com www2.google.com and www3.google.com 8. Head over to resource-zone.com to check the status of the submission to Dmoz. Wait another month, repeat steps 7 and 8 as necessary. hth
