Header Tags Controller v2.5.3

Can I somehow delete the changes the header.sql made to my database and then run it again?

I never ran the files that are named like:

Update_header_categories.sql

Update_header_categories_description.sql

Update_header_language.sql

I didnt think I was supposed to was I?

Everything else works fine. I see the Header Tags section in my admin menu and when I click on text control, my default info is there...

My regular store index is working fine...It shows the header tags, (title, description, keyworks, etc) correctly.

its just when I try to add product.

Adding a product is controlled by admin/categories.php. If you have replaced that file and still get the same error, I have no idea what it could be. All I can suggest is that you try replacing that file with the original one from the oscommerce archive. That will remove all reference to Header Tags.

Hmmm ok thanks for your time...I will try installing it from the start again.

If I want to delete the changes to my database made by the header.sql can i just run:

ALTER TABLE products_description DROP products_head_title_tag VARCHAR(80) NULL;

ALTER TABLE products_description DROP products_head_desc_tag LONGTEXT NULL;

ALTER TABLE products_description DROP products_head_keywords_tag LONGTEXT NULL;

ALTER TABLE categories_description DROP categories_htc_title_tag VARCHAR(80) NULL;

ALTER TABLE categories_description DROP categories_htc_desc_tag LONGTEXT NULL;

ALTER TABLE categories_description DROP categories_htc_keywords_tag LONGTEXT NULL;

ALTER TABLE categories_description DROP categories_htc_description LONGTEXT NULL;

Ok, now that i have it working I have a really quick and simple question:

When viewing product, it shows the title as the product name and then my default title which is awesome.

But there is no space between the product title and my default title. Is there a simple fix for this?

It looks like: Product NameStore Name

Want it to look like: Product Name - Store Name

In admin->Header Tags->Text Control, add a space (or a dash is better) before the store name in the default title. So it is it default reads

My Store
change it to
- My Store

Hello all,

does any one know how I can get my browser tab to show unique titles for each page and not the default tilte set in " english.php "

also in my admin section, when i type a title and save it, it appears on website page but if i go back to admin and refresh the same page, the title disappears although it stays on the webpage???

my website is " www.nicedeals.co.uk " I have only wrote titles for the " body panels & Lamps " page yet

I just posted the message below and then looked at the post that was done while I was writing this (above mine) and it almost looks like it has the same question , but if it answers mine then you obviously dont need to reply to me as well. Thanks.

Jack,

thanks that worked great.

Also, when I view a folder (category) it lists the subfolders or products and I added the "Header Tags Category Title" and I saw it adds it just above the product or subfolders, but how can I have that title also be shown in the browsers title bar?

Sorry if this is explained somehwere else, but I am having a hard time finding it. Thanks again! Your awesome!

You get unique titles by editing each of the includes/header_tags.php and english/header_tags.php files. You can do this manually or with the admin tool. As for the problem with the admin tool, does the title display correctly if you refresh the window?

I have a few problems with the full installation of this contribution..

firstly in the " install catalog " section where it says;

Replace the existing two lines in all files that you want to use the Header Tags Controller:

Old Lines:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=<?php echo CHARSET; ?>">

<title><?php echo TITLE; ?></title>

New Lines:

<?php

// BOF: WebMakers.com Changed: Header Tag Controller v2.5.2

// Replaced by header_tags.php

if ( file_exists(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'header_tags.php') ) {

? require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'header_tags.php');

} else {

?>

? <title><?php echo TITLE; ?></title>

<?php

}

// EOF: WebMakers.com Changed: Header Tag Controller v2.5.2

?>

I can't get this to work, if i do change that on say the index.php file or the specials.php file and upload them again, there is a lot of jargon appearing on top of each page before the header..

Also i tried to run fill_tags.php in my browser and it says

" The page you have requested requires your browser to support cookies.

Please enable cookie support in your browser, and try again. "

and cookies are enabled in my browser..

please HELP!!

What is the "jargon?' Are you running fill_tags from admin?

Jack

No i wasn't running it in admin..asked my host and they told me to do so, now I have it working, one thing still messed up though...

in admin under categories, when i type a title for a category and then update, no changes are made and if I go back to the page by clicking edit again, what ever I had typed disapperas??

also!

my products are coming up with their title showing up in the browser tab ut after the item title, it gives my store name

e.g.

"Alfa Romeo 145/ 146 bonnet-NiceDeals.co.uk-automotive parts online"

I would only like it to show the item title and not my store name at the end as i believe that can reduce my page ranking

also i would like to my store name to show as a default on pages i havent added a title

any suggestions?

OK, got the website name off by ticking the HTTA "off" in admin..so now i only see the product name in the title bar.

now just need the category titles to show up in browser and on by website.

on the browser tab i have the default title showing under categories and on my actual website i can't seem to change the title " categories " to what i want e.g. " alfa romeo body panels and lamps "

:thumbsup: gettin there slowly but surely.....

also..can someone tell ma other half how important this is so she stops pesterin me to come to bed >_<

The categories title looks like something you added to the stock code. Header Tags won't display that by itself. Did you make the code changes to the index.php file? There are more than just changing the title code like in the other files.

I need some help, this should be real easy for the header tags experienced. On the text control page in admin I see HTTA, HTDA, HTKA, HTCA.

I was told :

HTTA = header tag title all

HTDA= header tag description all

HTKA= header tag keyword all

What is HTCA?

What is supposed to happen when I check the boxes next to these options?

Does a check mean that it will use the default settings or does the check mean it will use the settings for that particular page?

Confused...

Moon

So I read that HTCA means Categories and it only works for category pages.

What was not answered as far as I can see is what ticking/not itcking these boxes does.

Is there anywhere that explains the use of these boxes options?

Let's say your page title is Cars and your defualt title is Oscommerce. If HTTA is on, then your title would be something like

Cars Oscommerce

If HTTA was off, the title would be

Cars

The best way to undersand it is to look at your title, change the setting and look at your title again.

also when it says chage the <title> code in roughly 35 files in the same directory as index.php, does this mean you need to change the code in " index.php " aswell and also why would you want to change the code for say " checkout.php " or " checkout_process.php " etc?

I only change the title code in roughly 15 files.

The above file hasn't been changed at all from what I can see. In the head area you have

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=<?php echo CHARSET; ?>">
<title><?php echo TITLE; ?></title>

That's not header tags code. The other code changes are not present either.

You only need to change the files in the root that you want to have unique titles. In general, the more pages that have unique titles the better, if that page is optimized. If you want to have a page listed by the SE's, then it should have the code installed in it.
