Paypal Retrieve Live Credentials error

When I click the Retrieve Live Credentials button I get the following error.  It's been like this for weeks.  HELP!!  I did the same procedure for a friend of mine a few weeks ago. His works fine.  Thanks to anyone who can help me resolve this issue.

Make sure the crt file is 100 up to date (most likely it is not as you are using an old osCommerce).

We have the same issue on v1.0.7.9, confirm that paypal.com.crt is up to date with Github file.

I did it with Phoenix and get this error:

Are you sure ?  The reason I ask is that ?? is providing that error and ?? (null coalescing operator) is fine since php7.0

We have the same issue with https.
Had to do manually with "Manage Your API Credentials" on right yellow/orange panel.

I was able to put my API into in the Manage Your API Credentials form.  Seems to be working now.  Thanks Heather, thanks Burt.  I thought I had to use the 'Retrieve Live Credentials' button to get it working correctly.  I was wrong.

I'd still like to check on your use of php7.4 as 7.4 would not complain about a double ?? (the null coalescing operator)...

Are you absolutely certain you are on 7.4 ?  I know that's a dumb Q, but it's often the case that users get mixed up...which makes support difficult sometimes.

Gary @burt  I had exactly the same problem and tried on PHP 7.1.33, PHP 7.2.34, PHP 7.3.23  and PHP 7.4.11.

I had to manually copy the information from my old site to the new one.

my client website stop to get paypal payment on 20 Oct 2020, tried to un-install and reinstall (tried to delete the log from database as well...) but it will not uninstall completely even the database log been deleted, as the balance/confiugration/Credentials / log still remain (no Start show up), and the balance is error. I am using Phonese 1.0.7.5, never can have the live retrieve working, always error and only allow manually edit, but can not get balance, after client made order they can not pay via paypal, so contact paypal twice, over a week so far, still waiting for respond from paypal, what they said at first place is contact with oscommerce developing team.... my question is after i uninstall the paypal module, module tab / payment selection, has no paypal module listed, delete the database log, but the the start button will not show up and the balance got error, how can i fix this problem? Another question, why has two paypal drop down on admin menu?

Got a similar message after trying to reset PayPal details. Had to do them manually.

They don't match with the fields I can find from developer.PayPal.com (assuming i'm in the right place/page). In developer.paypal.com > My apps & Credentials -page I can find: Sandbox account, Client ID and Secret?

After some trial and error I got it working!!!!

Still not 100% sure which e-mail to use in "PayPal E-Mail Address" -field? The one generated by developer.paypal.com (ending @personal.example.com) or my own e-mail which is attached to my own PayPal account...

e-mail address of the account marked as primary in your PayPal account settings.
