rebelsheep
I've just transfered an old site built on an old version of OSCommerce to a the Phoenix build. On the old site it had a counter in the footer for the number of 'site requests'. It was using the values stored in the 'counter' table in the database. How is the value updated in the counter table? Is the counter table part of the default installation of OSCommerce? If it is part of the default install - where is the setting / code to update the table - how do I switch it on? Thank you. (I have written code to write the value of the counter to the website - just not sure how to update it. Also if it is an existing feature, I really don't want to be writing my own custom code that might conflict with anything that is already there!) burt
IIRC, site counter was removed a very long time ago (years, perhaps 4 or 5 years ago). The questions I asked prior to its removal; what use is that count to the shop owner what use is that count to a site visitor Concluded (crowd-sourced) answers were "useless" and "useless". To re-instate it in Phoenix, a way to do it would be to build out a footer_suffix module for it or maybe it could be done by a siteWide hook. ruden
In 2010 v2.3 https://github.com/osCommerce/oscommerce2/commit/1d1592c0d9a2e7d32be99c7ccaf4d7170cf68ef5#diff-af42656d1bc753a99d130b445a8b7b54L15 Remove code in Phoenix https://github.com/gburton/CE-Phoenix/commit/cc948f2f582517e6959dd82f64ed70a9f4e9fc8c#diff-8ebec5780c08570bf73a80480dd15cb6 You can easily return the code. I look at visits in Google Analytics and I advise you.
rebelsheep
burt - I totally agree, I think a site counter is an anacronysm, outdated, pointless and naff. But client insists so...... ruden - thank you very much your links gave me the code to get a working counter again. Yuk! 🙂
