gzip database compression

Recommended Posts

I remember having gzip option in 2.2a but it was not very stable from what I remember and I never used it. You should be able to use zip in your contol panel to zip the db.

However these days space on servers is not  big issue so I just backup uncompressed these days.

This is an old one not sure if it still works.

If you need to download an unzipped backup file to your PC for storage, there are a number of PC tools (Windows) that can zip up a file to reduce its size, such as 7-Zip File Manager. Linux boxes have some compression tools, too.

thanks for the advice guys.

I am an old dog. I had an option with radio buttons that I have been using since we started oscomm, I was trying to stick with that.

But, just as easy or easier to do it as suggested, in that I have not to add or modify code.
