Guest
Using OSC 2.3.4.1 CE with PHP 7.0 and MariaDB Had no problems with the install. Had no problems running the SQL from my old 2.2 database. I don't see any duplicate entries in the database when looking thru categories and products. No duplicates in Admin, either. The categories box looks fine on the site, no dupes. But when a parent category is clicked, the screen is populated with duplicates, like this: When a subcat is selected, like above, and products appear, they look like this: Duplicate links appearing within subcategories and individual products. Any idea what is creating this? - Andrea
Guest
Okay, I figured out what the first problem is. I had yet to FTP my images folder from the old site. What appears to be duplicates in the first screenshot...the subcategories...is fixed now that I've uploaded all the category images. Each link now has a thumbnail image above it to represent the category. So now they look like this: Still don't understand what's happening with the two text links in each item, though. Is that related to images somehow? A setting in Admin that I haven't come across yet?
ArtcoInc
@puggybelle Proper HTML code has an alternative (or 'alt') text phrase for every picture to display. This way, if the browser or server can't find the picture, there is something to display. It just so happens that, in this case, the <alt> text for each category is the same as the name of the category. Hence, it 'looks' like double links. Guest
I suspected as much when I first saw the duplicate subcategories. The first one had some alt text showing when I pointed my mouse at it, the second one did not. Getting my images folder in took care of that. Still don't understand what is happening with the duplicate text links appearing on every item, though. The only alt text appearing is when I run my mouse over the thumbnail image of the product, as it should be. The text links are just that...two duplicate text links. In two different font sizes, no less! The only place that it is NOT happening is for items on display in the New Products module. Just one text link for the product's name. I don't know where to look now.
MrPhil
To tell for sure, you would look at the HTML source for the page (on most browsers, Ctrl+U). See if you find two copies of the displayed text, something like <a href="...">Digest - The 70s</a><br /><a href="...">Digest - The 70s</a> which would show a code problem in that you do indeed have duplicate links. On the other hand, if it's something like <a href="..."><img src="..." alt="Digest - The 70s"/></a><br /><a href="...">Digest - The 70s</a> that's to be expected to see two links "Digest - The 70s" if your image is not displaying for some reason. Are you seeing an image (as a link) and two text links? Note that you really shouldn't be seeing the text as a tooltip (on hover) unless there is a title="Digest - The70s" attribute in the link or image tags. Bad browsers like Internet Explorer used "alt" text as a tooltip unless overridden by an explicit "title" attribute. It's not supposed to be done that way -- "alt" is supposed to be used strictly for when graphics are not to be displayed or are unavailable (e.g., text-only browsing, SE spiders, screen readers). Guest
I figured out what was creating the duplicate links in the product listings. I've been messing around trying to implement something in my new site that I have functioning in my old 2.2 site...keyword highlighting in titles and descriptions when searching. In order to do that, there is some code that I've been playing with in catalog/product_info.php and catalog/includes/modules/product_listing.php and it was the latter that left me with duplicate links. Removed that code and all is well now! Thanks for all the help! - Andrea
