OCTOPUS18
We are a small on line retailer with limited tech know how. We are currently sitting on a server that is about to be switched off in favour of an up to date TLS 1.2 compliant server and our hosting have advised that our website/version of os commerce (v2.3.1) cannot be supported on the new server. We have two payment providers and we are currently advised that we must now meet TLS1.2 compliance criteria in order to continue with their service. We are a seasonal business and the unfortunate consequence of the above seems to be an untimely new website on a new template of our developer’s preference at a time when we need the process like a hole in the head. Both payment providers function in a third party model ie, entirely off site ..... we are advised by one of the providers that we do not need to comply and we have a long awaited outstanding query with the other provider. Any similar experience/top line observations welcome. Octopus18
♥John W
One major advantage of upgrading will be that your site will work better wiht phones and tablets. You cwill increase sales just by doing that. You're going to need to upgrade eventually and it will be painful to fight because you will run into problems out of the blue with upgrades. It's not too hard to do but it does take time and know how. Post in the commercial forums and you can get quotes on help or completely getting it done. There are people in that forum that are very familiar with this and do it often. It's going to depend on how modified your site is from stock. As far as TLS1.2, it is where you need to be. SSLv3 is long gone now and TLS 1.0 and 1.1 will be done away with at some point. You'll find the latest osC version (the community-supported responsive version - EDGE) here. I'm not really a dog. My best guess is that your host is upgrading their version of PHP (probably to version 7.0), and this will indeed cause an osC v2.3.1 store to crash. Your two choices are: 1) Find another host that will allow you to continue to run an older version of PHP, (like version 5.6) and continue to run your existing store. Or, 2) Upgrade your store to the latest Edge version of osC (regardless of who you have host your store). The first is an option ONLY IF you need to keep your store running for income reasons, but be aware that you will eventually have to upgrade. Any efforts to try and make your current store run under PHP 7.x will result in a Frankenstore that no-one else will be able to support or maintain. As @John W mentioned, there are programmers and developers here that can assist you in upgrading your store and migrating your data over.
