A new version has been uploaded with these changes:

  • Added an option to choose which category description to use.
  • Added a see more link to the category description.
  • Added css for total control of the appearance.
  • Changed the category name into a link.
  • Moved the css changes from the install instructions file to the user.css file.

NOTE: If you already have this installed, be sure to uninstall it before doing anything else.

@Jack_mcs

Is there a way to apply some type of 'equal height' code to the display? Or, is that already in the CSS (which I have not yet applied)?

TIA

Malcolm

It uses the equal height module. You may need to install that in admin->Modules->Header Tags. Depending upon your version of oscommerce, you may need to upgrade the module in your shop to this one or this one

@Jack_mcs

Thank you. I'm using the latest version of Edge. I do not see any Equal Height header tag available. I *think* @burt replaced it with a CSS solution instead.

With that in mind, do you have a preference of which of the two add-ons you suggested to use? Or, is there a CSS solution instead?

TIA

Malcolm

If you are using the latest version with Gary's change to it then that is the same as the second addon I mentioned. I don't know if that still requires the equal height module to be installed or not so you may want to try enabling the one already in your admin. If it doesn't work, try the first one I mentioned.

@ArtcoInc

Jack has coded in row list-group at

<div class="row list-group" itemtype="http://schema.org/ItemList">

so that should be enough to invoke the inbuilt .css solution (edge)...and it should equalise the output...

If a "group" of boxes is inside a "row list-group", they should be good.

This is a signature that appears on all my posts.
IF YOU MAKE A POST REQUESTING HELP...please state the exact version
of osCommerce that you are using. THANKS

Gary: Thanks for checking.

ArtcoInc: You may need to adjust the width and/or column count in the settings of this module.

I did need to install one of the add-ons you suggested (it did not display properly without one). The first one you suggested worked. The second one didn't.

You *might* want to include this info in the installation instructions. :cool:

Thank you both for your help!

@Jack_mcshi,

Thank you very much for the great addon! I had tried at least other 10 addons (some version 2.2 and some 2.3) regarded to sub-categories, but with no luck so far.

Thought the best is come back to ask your help as I like to stick with your addon install.

from the images attached, 1st the css design is beautiful, when you hover and it pop up,

categories-image-01.thumb.PNG.77abd1ee406a60d8775a3d9746fc3daa.PNG

From the image below, you can see i have many tiers of sub-categories, and when i click on each sub-categories, I like to have the number of the sub-categories show up, and the bar will show up

Home /Catalog /RosesBS29.0-8210 /BS29.0-8210-test / BS29.0-8210-test2 / BS42.0-9361 / BS46.0-5803 / BS47.4-8078

Right now when you click on the Category Roses, it just show up SOME products in Roses and its sub-categories, and the css design is not what I want. (Still struggle and trying to figure out how to change the css design for this particular area and the header area...)

Is it possible to achieve what I want with your addon?

Many thanks! Lyn

I'm not sure I understand your question but I think you are wanting to change the appearance of the sub-category pages. If so, yes, that is possible but it would involve a bit of coding. A new module would have to be created for the sub-category section. Duplicating the current one would work, once the names are all changed. then the code in it would have to be edited to just show the sub-categories. It's not the sort of thing I can walk through in a support thread since it involves too much.

@Jack_mcs   Hi Jack,

Thank you so much for reply. Yes, I mix 2 things together I guess.

First Sub-categories module.
So if you see the image attached, there are many tiers of sub-categories, and right now with your categories images, once click on the ones have sub-categories, it will show products only. Instead, I like to be able to show only sub-categories, and if no sub-categories then show up the products. And if you click on the next tier sub-sub categories, it did the same thing till the final tier of the sub-categories, no more sub-category and show only products.

Second appearance of the sub-category pages.
So I will try to copy your module and rename to sub-category and the appearance should stay together same as your original one. (I love the one you have much better)
And when it is the final tier and showing the products only page, I like the new product index page appearance with VIEW and BUY button instead of wrong position BUY NOW button only. I think this one I will just try to copy the code to make the view button also appear.

I will take your suggestion and copy the module and see how it go, will come back later for update.

Once again, thank you for your support!!  Lyn

I don't recall if you mentioned the version of oscommerce you are using but in the CE version, there are modules to display the sub-categories. Are you using those?

@Jack_mcs

Hi, Jack,

I have 234.1 Edge (BS) version. I had tried all the addons (addons info #9448/#9445/#7959/#8359/#8384/#8415/#7268/#7841, and more), even 2.2 and 2.3 version with no good luck so far....I just found a post by Dan showing Kymation (Jim) boostrap website, which does exactly I am after, when click on the main page, show the 1st tier categories, and if you continue click on categories inside categories, it will show up only categories till no more categories then it show up products. I also post there to ask which addon support this function....  Thanks!  Lyn

@ce7I wasn't referring to an addon. The CE version comes with category listing modules. You just need to install them in admin.

@Jack_mcs  Hi Jack,

Thank you for reply. I had the category listing set asTrue all the time, but it doesn't show the category or sub-category at all from the beginning.....  Lyn

Just to be clear, there are two category listing modules: one in the index nested group and one in the index products group. They only apply to those groups and will only show sub-categories belonging to the category being shown.

@Jack_mcs  Hi Jack,

Do you mind to explain what is different these two? I installed 3 more websites for testing, i just can't understand the logic of the category and product listing from Frozen version...

The image below, as mentioned by @BrockleyJohnthat it can't mix the product & categories, otherwise only see the products at the main page.

However the new website, clean without addons, the original 234.1Edge version, if mix products and categories, doesn't matter on main page or on sub-categories page, it just not showing anything. With/without New product set as true.

I had set Categories Image On, New Product Off first, and no products showing, then Categories Image On, New product On same no product show up.

categories-index-01.thumb.PNG.5f179abb25978f338cc77ae959126bcb.PNG

However if i moved the product to subcategories, without products, it did show up both categories and products in New Product area, that seems OK, but no, it is not really....

categories-index-02.thumb.PNG.3a85bd72c94a9a27d385d1eb27fef250.PNG

The reason I say so is because when you click on the categories/sub-category which should have the product from my normal web browsing experiences, but it is empty, not showing anything...

categories-index-01.thumb.PNG.5f179abb25978f338cc77ae959126bcb.PNG

You can see image below under software/simulation have a product SWAT3, categories-index-04.thumb.PNG.3ba00621695c69596864a44b387ba46d.PNG

logically in the front end if you click on that category/sub-category, it should show the product withing that category/subcategory on the index page, but when i click on the simulation subcategory, it shows empty....

categories-index-05.PNG.f1fb461065c59a61699504dff2706ecd.PNG

I really dont know how these index, index_nesting, index_product setting so that it can show up the way I want it to be, do you have an example of your setting?

I had check the post from @Dan Cole showing up  @kymation  Jim's boostrap website...I have post there for my question regard to sub-categories as well....

Thank you so much again for your reply and information. Hopefully with images attached this time, i can explained myself better (Please excuse me i am not native English speaker...😂)  Thanks!  Lyn

@ce7All versions of oscommerce have used the index.php file to show the categories that are nested (sub-categories) and the categories that have products. For the ones that have products, the products were shown instead of additional sub-categories. But there was a code change available to show both.

In the CE version,  the code to list the categories for each section was moved to modules in those module groups. All those modules do is display the sub-categories of the category currently showing. Neither will show products. You can use the included new products module if you want to show new products in those sub-categories or install an addon like Featured Products if you want to control which products show.

If you want the products to be controlled by the category modules, you will need to edit those modules. Though that is defeating the purpose of the modules and I don't recommend it.

This line of questions is beyond the scope of this support thread so please open a new thread if you wish to continue it.
