suscrofa
We are trying to avid investing in an SSL. Our provider, netfirms.com, offers a shared SSL that can be used on any page of subdirectory. I just tried changing both configure.php files as if that was my SSL, but it always cycled back to the payment page in 2.3.4. Is it possible to use a shared SSL in order to be able to use AIM? If so, what am I doing wrong? Thanks. Lark Burnham Horton. KS
frankl
There is usually no need to use shared SSL, there are free SSL certificates available from LetsEncrypt. https://letsencrypt.org/ I have made a simple admin page to grab an free SSL certificate from them. See this post (and read through that thread while you are at it) Your host may already have the capability to install and auto renew LetsEncrypt SSL certificates for you, try asking them. osCommerce user since 2003! ♥John W
Even if you have to pay for a SSL certificate, it is worth it. If you are serious about selling online, then think that way. Think that you will be successful and you will make sales. On the flipside, think about what will cause you lost sales. Especially on new online stores, you want to show professionalism. After saying all that, I'm glad I used spellcheck. I'm not really a dog.
♥John W
A.net Aim is great by the way. I've used A.net since 2002 and Aim since it was available around 2003. Very few problems ever. I'm not really a dog.
suscrofa
Thank you for your advice, While I have your ear, I was wondering if you could help me with Relay/Response URLs. I have to upload a long list of possible URLs every time I set up a store, in hopes that one will work. The logical one would be checkout_success, but that doesn't seem to do it. I am assuming AIM also requires one, which is why I keep cycling back to the payment page. RRURLs are the most frustrating part of dealing with A_net. I hope you can give me some pointers. Thanks again. Lark
♥John W
I had to double check to make sure, but I've always had those blank and it works perfectly. You can set up a test account with them also and run tests charges to check. Look at their developer information and it's easy to set up if you want, but not needed. I've modified mine to give better error codes and a couple other things, but you should find this works out of the box. A.net has links to explain everything, but it's been a while since I set mine up. I'm not really a dog.
♥John W
You should look at this thread regarding the SSL crt file you need to have. You'll see where I posted the cert file, but make sure it doesn't have BOM set when you save it. It's worth reading that thread through if you have problems. I'm not really a dog. suscrofa
We have used SIM for several years, it worked fine until recently, and then I read that A.net is phasing it out. Relay Response URLs were necessary and the order could not be placed without them. An error message would appear until the URL was uploaded. I wouldn't miss them a bit if I was sure they were not required. Are you absolutely certain? Thanks for all your help. Lark
♥John W
Hi Lark, As I said, I did double check my A.net control panel. I've never entered a response url, but I think SIM needs it where Aim doesn't. I have never used SIM, only AIM. But, test it by enabling both and running your AIM. I actually set up a developer account and played with their test enviroment, but that was a while ago. I'll help you with anything I can, but make sure you look at that thread I referenced. suscrofa
Dear John; I have been playing with the shared SSL in GOLD. All I ghave done so far is add the SSL to our domain and SSL domain and turn on SSL to true in both configure files. All I get is the same error message that I get when I try to buy before I turned on SSL: [x_response_code] => 2 [x_response_subcode] => 4 [x_response_reason_code] => 34 [x_response_reason_text] => The VITAL identification numbers are incorrect. Call Merchant Service Provider. [x_auth_code] => I get https on order pages. To what ID numbers does it refer? I am using the same ones I use in SIM. Thank you for your help. I did read the thread, but it didn't make sense. Lark
♥John W
I haven't seen that error before, but you need an api login id and transaction key that you get from your A.net account panel. That's the only thing I can think of, so you might need to call them for further info if you are sure you have that info correct. The api id and key are not your login info to A.net though. It's set in the control panel. I'm not really a dog.
suscrofa
Dear John; Good news and bad news. I finally got an order to go through GOLD with HTTPS on every page after sign in using AIM and a Shared SSL. The problem is that I cannot get it to work with 2.3.4. Gold was very good about telling me which SSL to turn on to get the checkout process to work under SSL. There is no such statement in 2.3.4, although the pages are also in https during checkout. However, I hit 'confirm', and it cycles back to the sign-in page, which will not work. In catalog/includes/configure the only things I could change and still get both admin and checkout to proceed were https server and changed Enable SSL to true. I did a lot of trial and error in both catalog/includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php and I finally found the combo that worked in GOLD. Do you have any idea why it does not work in 2.3.4? Any suggestions for what else to change? Thank you for your continued help. Lark
♥John W
I think the configure files in both these versions should set up pretty much the same. So, if it works in one it should work in the other but there have been some threads on the forum going full SSL that you can find with a little searching. I went to all pages SSL last year. suscrofa
I bought 3 years ofd SSL certificate through our provider @$32.00 a year. I have the certificate. Now, how do I get it to work in my site? I searched on IE for https://oursite.com, but nothing. Where do I put that huge string of numbers? Thanks. ♥John W
Depending on your control panel for hosting you may able to install it yourself. If you don't see that section, or it's not obvious, ask your host to install it for you. It has to be done correctly. I'm not really a dog. suscrofa
Dear John; Thank you for your help. I had an older version of 2.3.4 that refused to let AIM work, so I decided to rebuild the store in GOLD. I actually like AIM, no relay response URLs, no confusing message after 'Buy now'. Very simple and easy to use. I have got the new store up and running, but have one little question: how do I make the 'list; view the default on the store index page? List looks and works so much better with our products. I looked around admin, but so nothing that would do this. Do I have to go into the code and change it manually? Thanks again. ♥John W
I thought list is the default but if you set it to grid, then your remembers it the next time. You might post this on the BS thread or start a new thread with this quesiton. But, you can find this code around line 98 in product_listing if you want to play with it. You could force list if you really wanted. I'm not really a dog.
