Newsletter - Viagra (not really a joke)

Getting newsletter sign ups with concentrations of names and email addresses like viagra, cialis, etc...  Understand some folks stick fake email addresses in but seems a bit more concerted given they're signing up for newsletter, they have a common "theme", and we're an industrial parts website.  SO....

1.  Thoughts on what they're trying to accomplish?

2.  Is this an indication of something we haven't locked down?

Thanks

I doubt that the bots that are signing up are interested in industrial-strength anything private parts. More likely they are seeing something that looks like an email address, or maybe a contact form. They're hoping that some person will eventually read this spam and order some product to help their, uh, problem.

Do you have a contact that is an email address, or an obvious contact form? Those are something spambots look for. Consider adding some sort of CAPTCHA, puzzle, or other challenge to reduce the number of spambots getting through. Didn't Gary put a clever math challenge in 2.3.4BS? I extended it on my site to ask questions with all sorts of formats. If that doesn't work (enough), consider something to look for certain keywords and just vaporize incoming mails.
