Google’s new SSL changes

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I just got a notice that Google is making a change in the way it displays a websites SSL certificate. It seems like it will be in effect by January 31st.

I run a full SSL shop front and back but, I know there are people who don't. You might want to think about doing so soon if you haven't already. The link to the article is below.

Take care

For those interested, https://letsencrypt.org/ provides free ssl certificates recognized by google and other browsers. If you use plesk as a console there is an option that installs the certificate.

LetsEncrypt.org:

  1. Check with your host first. Many do not support LE and will not install their certificates.
  2. LE is getting a bad reputation in the industry because they refuse to police their users. Other SSL certificate issuers will revoke the certs for malware and fraudulent sites, but LE says it doesn't care. If you go with LE, don't be surprised if at some point your SSL cert is not honored by some browsers.
