Do I need the Header tags/SEO Urls contributions for Bootstrap 2.3.4?

Recommended Posts

Finally getting round to switching my old 2.2 site over to bootstrap 2.3.4 version. On my old 2.2 site I had header tags contribution installed. Does this come built into 2.3.4 now or on BS?

I also wish to add a SEO URLS contribution, I assume this works fine with BS 2.3.4?

Any other contributions worth installing or needed on BS 2.3.4 would be most helpful.

Thanks

neither are included in the base install.

look at the addons under 2.3 for BS ready versions.

header tags are built in, but you still won't have the control that header tags seo gives. You will have to install / build modules for that purpose. I think HTSEO has been updated to work for the bootstrap version. It's your decision to install the add-on or not.

  • 4 months later...

I see some activity on the boards and on Githuv regarding Header Tags SEO for Bootstrap. Is this a built in feature now?

In that case all I need is to add SEO URLs then?

Burt's SEO Reloaded is now built in to Bootstrap Edge version after April 7th.

I just installed it and the modules are prebuilt and ready to use.

@@fleeced The only supported version of Header Tags SEO is located here. If you are going to install it, I suggest you use it as opposed to some other you may find since I only support my version.

SEO is now built in to the EDGE version of the Responsive osCommerce.

You do not need a SEO URL addon, as there is no such thing as "SEO Urls".

The Responsive osCommerce has microdata'd breadcrumbs which is what Search Engines use to display your site heirarchy instead of URL.

If you want "Human Friendly" URLs that is a different matter, nothing to do with SEO.

Actually, having the keyword in the url still matters for SEO. Not nearly as much as it used to but it does play a part. It can be quite important, in fact, if a link is posted somewhere to some image on your site, like in an advertising campaign, because the keyword is then in the alt tag which is still a ranking factor. And it could be argued that having a human-readable url will increase traffic, which is also a ranking factor. For example, if I was reading through some forum post and it said go here - http...com/free-stuff or go here http...com/index.php?cpath=12, I would be more inclined to click on the link that described where I was going. So while rewriting the url's is mainly for the benefit of the visitors to the site, it does have an affect on SEO and shouldn't be ignored.

Indeed, CTR in Google listings is also an increasing factor that is being recognised as having a part in ranking order . So if the URL is shouting out or clear, this will improve CTR and therefore your rankings.

Bing is especially big on ranking readable related urls over random generated urls. I've seen this happen on many occasions.

If you chaps feel it helps your SEO efforts, no-one is saying you must not do it.  Go right ahead

I believe in my own research and the data provided by Google and other Search Engines, not on the outdated ideas of those who sell SEO products and services. Get one of these experts to make a blog post today...about todays state of affairs, not last years.

Bear in mind that inside the last year, Google has stopped showing URLs in favour of hierarchy (in those sites that enable it).

https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2015/04/better-presentation-of-urls-in-search.html

Even this is a year out of date, as this mentions US-only (wrong!) and Mobile-only (wrong!).

Friendly URLs are important.

One thing is for sure, seo url is a lot more then only title and meta description. Due to the module of @@Jack_mcs my website is doing good in the search engines. Also what @@Hotclutch is saying is very true. Duplicate content is a bad thing and it will give you penalty by google.

Sounds interesting, can you give examples.

product_info.php?products_id=28

product_info.php?manufacturers_id=10&products_id=28

is duplicate content in the stock osCommerce. With SEO URLs they both redirect to:

samsung-galaxy-tab-p-28.html

product_info.php?products_id=28

product_info.php?manufacturers_id=10&products_id=28

is duplicate content in the stock osCommerce.

Is this not solved by the Canonical Header Tag that is included in stock osCommerce?

and

http://template.me.uk/234bs3/product_info.php?products_id=28

both:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://template.me.uk/234bs3/product_info.php?products_id=28" />

There is no such thing as a "duplicate content penalty".

Google will choose the best page to show in the results for a given query.

So, if you have both

product_info.php?products_id=28

product_info.php?manufacturers_id=10&products_id=28

Google will choose one of these to show depending on how it thinks it best suits the user's search.

Then again, if there is a page much the same as yours on other sites, they will choose the best one to show from among those sites.

Google does not care if you have a few identical pages on your site, especially if you have dynamic URL's. The algorithm is pretty smart.

What is important is having organic links to a site with unique, well-written and well constructed pages.

I used to use pretty URLs which were displayed in Google and resulted in a higher click through rate. I still have pretty URLs so old links will work, but they aren't necessary any more as 2.3.4BS includes schema in the breadcrumb, so the breadcrumb is displayed.

From what I observe Google does not always get things right i.e the way you want them to be. The first goal should always be to get your script to present things the way you want them and leave Google in no doubt whatsoever.

You won't get a penalty for duplicate content, but your performance will suffer because of pagerank spread etc. if you leave issues unattended.

Very true Ashley, which is where canonical header tags come into play.

URL rewrite Plugins, which is the most compatible so far with the latest version of  BS Edge?

Why don't you, as a user (and not one of the ones who are completely biased about it) test each one and report back as to which you think is most suited;
