Admin side currency is displaying � and no £ symbol

I recently upgraded from Osocmmerce 2.2 to 2.3. Most things went smooth. I have a problem with the currency which is displaying � only on admin side. Correct symbol of GBP (£) displays on the front end and only back end is having a problem displaying £in front of price and instead this symbol � is displayed.

 

Can anyone please help as it doesn't look nice on invoice and packing slips.

How did you enter the GBP (£) into 2.3? If you transferred it over from 2.2, it may still be in Latin-1 encoding, while 2.3 is UTF-8. See if you can go into the currencies editor and reenter it, or else use £ (I think that's the entity name).
