Automatically turn off a category with zero products

I am using the enable-disable categories add-on so I have the ability to manually hide a category if I wish.

 

The problem I have run into is I have lots of products that I manage from feed files and so products come and go depending on availability and often I am left with an empty category when the products in it are Inactive, discontinued or deleted.

 

Is there a way to automatically turn off/hide a category with zero products?

That add-on is for 2.2.

 

Will it work in 2.3.1?

I have uploaded instructions for 2.3.3 and dont see why it will not work on 2.3.1 although I do not have a local copy to test on.
