Small red x marks appear in Internet Explorer but not Firefox

When I view my site in IE I get small red x marks right before words like Categories, Shopping Cart, What's new - indicating that there are pictures right before these words that are missing, and when I right click the x it has Show Picture as an option... But when I click them, (as I have done to see what name is on the images) there is apparently nothing there to save, no save image as option appears, any ideas why this is happening? I'm thinking there shouldn't be any images there in the first place?

The only reason I have seen for images to show in FF and not IE is that they are the wrong format.

If they are CYMK format they show in FF but not IE

For IE they need to be RGB

I didn't change anything so I don't know why they would be in the wrong format, also in FF the places I am speaking of do not even show a picture, there is simply nothing there, blank white space, which leads me to believe there is really nothing there on some of them, unless of course there are blank white placeholders that oscom has used in it's layout for some reason.

I did notice however that the more options link shows in FF, and does not show in IE, appearing with a red x and the word more, so the more link is a picture but the other 'pictures' have no alt attribute and show no explanation for the missing picture. Lastly I did not change that more image, so... IDK why it's in the wrong format.

I made a screen shot of the difference but have no way of showing you, without streaming my site, which I probably will not be doing... sigh*

Thanks for the tips, but I don't think that's the issue.

I'm familiar with CMYK/RGB problems, and the other options you listed just don't seem to fit.

The problem is exactly as jhworld mentioned - firefox displays these 'images' just fine, whereas iexplore refuses to render them. The problem is that they aren't actually images. It's as though they are placeholders for the text that should appear (and does...in firefox)

Look closely.

You have a path with no image name at the end.

That would be why you just see X

One other reason not mentioned in the link I posted for FF to display images and not IE can be problems in the config file.

But that doesn't appear to be the case here.

I think the config file is probably closer to the mark, but I'm not sure how to tackle that one...

As to the path with not images name, I saw that from the get go. These are NOT images that I have placed there and neglected to ensure the links are correct.

When I view my site in IE I get small red x marks right before words like Categories, Shopping Cart, What's new - indicating that there are pictures right before these words that are missing, and when I right click the x it has Show Picture as an option... But when I click them, (as I have done to see what name is on the images) there is apparently nothing there to save, no save image as option appears, any ideas why this is happening? I'm thinking there shouldn't be any images there in the first place?

Firefox, to keep pages looking tidy no longer shows a broken image link as an x or a little torn image (a la netscape). Not easy for webmasters to see problems, but there are add-ons to firefox to diagnose such errors.

Hello everyone,

I am begginer in osCommerce and I got similar problem, when I use IE in my website are no images and colours when I click one of my categories.(Images properties path shows:Type, Size, Created, Modified- not available), but other pages like: Home, Contact us etc. working ok.With Firefox and Google Chrome everything working well.

Maybe somebody have any ideas how to fix it?

Broken images in IE (but not FF or Chrome etc.), most usual reasons:

1. wrong image path or missing image (like in your case src="")

2. wrong image color system (CMYK)

3. Wrong mode when uploaded via FTP to server: images should always upload in binary mode. If uploaded in Ascii mode usually IE can't handle or show them. Specially this happens if image is very small.

I don't think so these options are for me, because in my case, same pictures are working in one page, but in other pages not.For example, my header.png working for all pages well(home,all categories,create account, login etc.),but not working when I click on one of my product categories(corsets,stockings etc.)

In your Admin, set 'Use Search-Engine Safe URLs (still in development)' to false.

Save it.

Sometimes you have to set 'Use Cache' to false (or better yet clear the cache) to see any change.

Your links are screwed.

Example:

http://YOURDOMAIN.co.uk/index.php/cPath/23

Should be:

http://YOURDOMASIN.co.uk/index.php?cPath=23

Doing what I said will fix the problem.
