Date of Birth Menu

Just because YOU require an exact birthdate to sell your porn, Dick, does not mean the rest of us (99% of all osCommerce users) need to.

Glen,

One could say that your thinking is single minded!

Why not open your eyes and look into the 21st century.

Actually... while you've got your eyes open, why not use them to read the complete thread.

You will then see that it was BirdBrain who first mentioned anything about cigarettes, booze or porn... not Dick.

Unless you are selling cigarettes, booze or porn...

Who's the single minded one here?

Your singular requirements to sell your smut are not the requirements of the rest of us who sell products and services.

A dildo is a product and a prostitute offers a service

Pretty simple concept really...

Just because you may be put off or imtimidated by another persons products or services, doesn't mean you should put them down for finding a market to operate their business.

That would solve the problem for the widest variety of osc using sites across the globe -- and that's what osc is all about, widest compatability.

If you want to remove features of osC that would exclude people who operate sites with products or services you're intimidated by, is this offering widest compatability?

Maybe next time should think first... get your facts in order... appreciate other peoples markets and then write your comments!

Ian-San,

I agree with you...Unless you are selling cigarettes, booze or porn, there is no reason to have to have the DOB when signing up. That's one of the first things I turn off. If I get asked when signing into a site...I lie anyway....

Sorry to bump this so much, but it's the right topic, more or less.... you mention that the DOB is one of the first things you turn off... is that in osC, and if so, where?

We sell medical and rescue products and only use our website for quoting or requesting our eNewsletter, therefore I only require name, phone and email address. If the script is in admin in milestone to delete DOB, why can't it be extended to cover all fields? BTW is Dick Johnson a contrived name, who on earth would name their child after a part of the male anatomy TWICE!

Life is a highway!

I'm with Catherder and Joe, I think

I don't see

Exactly!

Just because YOU require an exact birthdate to sell your porn, Dick, does not mean the rest of us (99% of all osCommerce users) need to. Chris states his requirements for his site and you belittle him for it? Get your head out of your ass and stop thinking you are so important. Your singular requirements to sell your smut are not the requirements of the rest of us who sell products and services.

The default configuration of OSC should be an is age over or under question, with an administration feature to configure the site to ask for the exact birthdate if the admin requires it (this could be a drop down menu, or by whatever method is determined to be the most ergonomic). That would solve the problem for the widest variety of osc using sites across the globe -- and that's what osc is all about, widest compatability.

I have no doubt whatsoever where the SMUT resides....

If you would take the time... do go back and find out what this thread is actually about.... you COULD start one on removing fields...

*ahem*

Let's restrict the bickering to PMs, ok guys? Great. :)

Back on topic, does anyone know of a way to remove the DOB in 2.1?

Bickering?... lol... yes, it would have been smart for some here to pm than to post publicly....

As to "back on topic".... how to remove DOB is not the subject of this thread....

 Would you prefer me to start another topic? Most of this pre-derailment thread has been concerning the removal of the DOB field. That's enough of an on-topic discussion for me. ;)

Yes... I can understand why you have picked up on it but, everybody is free to begin a thread on the topic of their choice... this one has been hijacked by trolls....

  • 1 month later...

Although we are not selling DOB i love it .. and we didn't disable it. A big problem of Ecommerce is the missing personal contact to the shop owner. So customers go to another shop the next time.

If you ask them to tell you their birthday you can send them Email, Tell them that they will get an personal gift - next time they buy something in your shop.

So for us it is a great chance. I agree not to make the dob required for everybody - but I wouldn't exclude.

.... only to give you an new idea .. on what dob can do for you.

I just coded a little birthday list, wich shows the current month in the admin section ... if anybody wants .. just give me a email.

Live is to short to worry
