uwearusa
I have been researching the shipping modules, as many have. There appears to be no real good solid answer as to what works best. So much so that I am even considering changing from OSCommerce. Does anybody have a good solid solution for the shipping module?

You look in the contributions section and see which will suit you. Change from oscommerce, you will have the same "problem".

We are an apparel manufacturer, we use every freight company imaginable, however for the store we thought it would simplify things by using USPS, UPS, or FedEx. The problem we see is that there are no seemless contributions availible for those three freight companies that are not full of "problems". If you know otherwise, please advise. Sorry, I am in Australia so I do not use any of those. Any reasonable "contribution" has a support forum that is active, so if there are problems, you post the problem or question there. I am not sure what you mean by seamless. The ones I use (mainly centred around Australia Post) are integrated into the checkout process. I sell men's and women's underwear. What do you manufacture? uwearusa
Coopco, it will be interesting to see if anyne can in the US can come to the table with a contribution that is not full of problems, I doubt it. We manufacture a tremendous variety of product for different companies from outerwear to underwear. Within our company we also have a brand of our own called uwearusa, which is the reason for the store. It is high quality cotton underwear for men and women manufactured completely in the United States (including the components). The on-line store is for the direct to consumer distribution channel. natrium42
You should just hire a specialist to do the integration for you. Every shop has it's own requirements, that's why all but the simplest contributions are meant to be adjusted.
uwearusa
Specialist is not needed. I can do any of the integrations. The issue I state is that there is no really good contribution availible that is not full of flaws. If you can prove me otherwise, feel free, I am open minded enough re-look. We are interested in USPS, UPS, and FEDEX.

We are interested in USPS, UPS, and FEDEX. What "problems" are you talking about? If you mean technical problems, then learn to code better or hire someone who can. If you mean lack of features, add additional contributions. There is not one contribution/addon that does everything for you. It's all FREE; if you are not satisfied then you might want to look elsewhere. For the record, I have been using "USPS Methods" contribution flawlessly for 5 years, among a ton of other addons. natrium42
By "integration" I do not mean "following instructions of the mod", but business specific integration and adjustment to the unique requirements of a business. I was using Canada Post, UPS and FedEx without problems in my shop. A short while ago I switched UPS and FedEx to go through eShipper. After extensive modification I can ship electronically via one click -- even the printing of the shipping label is automatic. My products are quite small in size and there is never more than 1 package per order. The boxing algorithm is customized to work with this in mind. A bigger problem is making sure shipping works even when UPS and FedEx servers are unresponsive. One way would be to add a formula to estimate shipping. Another way would be to add some form of caching for the returned rates.
