Discount Codes for publication

WeeNed

Recommended Posts

We are proposing to include in a forthcoming publication a discount code - something along the lines of "Enter this code at checkout between 1st & 30th June and get a 10% discount on all purchases". It would, obviously, need to be the same discount code for all customers.

I like the look of the "Credit Class & Gift Voucher" module mentioned in Chapter 9 of David Mercer's "osCommerce: Professional Edition", and although in its v5.21 it looks like a big job to install it, I'm prepared to give it a go.

My problem is, we have a printer's deadline coming up, and we need to know the discount code in the next few days.

Could someone who has used this contribution tell me if the discount code is something we can specify (which means it would be possible to advise the printer of the discount code now and set it to that value at the appropriate time)? Or is the discount code generated at the time the discount coupon is created, like a password?

If anyone else has encountered this, I'd be gratreful for any advice.

Many thanks,

I would strongly suggest looking at http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4269

I tried installing the above Discount Code addon, and ran into this as an error when going to Admin > Catalog > Discount Coupons

"1146 - Table 'kno1008403170251.discount_coupons' doesn't exist

select count(*) as total from discount_coupons cd"

And can't add any coupons/codes. Anyone else run into this issue?

David,

Ensure you run the SQL database query to alter the tables to accept the discount coupon code.

Also, with this coupon code contribution, you can specify the code to be used with each promotion or it will generate a random code if one is not specified.

Chris
