eureka
I'm almost ready to go live with my DVD rental store. Although this still looks a lot like a standard osCommerce site a lot of effort has gone into the back-end to keep track of the DVDs, the clients membership status, etc, etc. Please comment, particularly your understanding of "How it Works", is it simple/confusing? http://www.eurekaDVD.com Thanks, Mark. Guest
Mark, You have put together a very nice looking store even without making an huge mods in the stock layout. The blue in the box tops is a nice shade and the stars are a nice touch. A couple of suggestions.......Need to work on the download speed. There are some really good tips in the Tips and Tricks section. Check them out. It may just be me but the blue on the buttons is just a little too bright to fit with the rest of your theme. Your "how it works" was very easy for me to understand. Nice job.
eureka
Kim, Thanks for your comments. I've now turned off the counting and turned on the cache to speed things up a bit. The color of the buttons will be changed in the near future. Mark. :D

belladonna
Basically a nice use of stylesheets. Well done! :) The small images are a bit of low quality. There are some mods to deal with this. Another thing is the arrow in the shopping cart box ... it's a bit off. You are having some issues with caching as well (be sure to check the permissions). Personally I think it would be better not to "forcing a login". Let your customers fill their shoppingcart, and have them register when they want to check out. You might want to read the following thread: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31021 Take care, Richard
eureka
Richard, Thanks for taking the time to check my site. To help me could you please clarify a few things: Another thing is the arrow in the shopping cart box ... it's a bit off. What do you mean? issues with caching as well (be sure to check the permissions). What were you experiencing? In regards to "forced logins" I did this because I need to check the users account to determine how many DVDs they have out and how many they can still hire etc., however, you point is very well taken. belladonna
What I meant about the arrow, is that it seems to be more to the bottom of the cell than all the other arrows. It isn't that big a deal, but it's looks a bit strange to me ... that's just me being picky :) Sometimes the following error appears: ------------------- Warning: fopen("/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/eurekaDVD.com/httpdocs/tmp/also_purchased-english.cache80", "w") - Permission denied in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/eurekaDVD.com/httpdocs/includes/functions/cache.php on line 22 ------------------- Take care, Richard
eureka
Richard, I'm not really sure how, but I think I've fixed the error. I went in and cleared the /tmp/ cache directory and this seemed to work?!?! Thanks, Mark.
eureka
Finally.....I've fixed the buttons and the back-end to monitor, track & receive returned DVDs. After loading the store with products (& removing the messages) I'm going to "switch-on". At last I'll be trading (.......I hope)! :D :P Mark
Guest
I'm not too fond of the, * Not logged in * Cannot order in the Account Status infobox. You and I both know what it means and what's going on, but I think this might confuse some of your users. Other than that I think it looks pretty good! greenbeandemon
The site is looking good. The header is somewhat pixelated on the upper left corner around eureka. Other than that it looks great. I would really be interested in seeing the code you added for rentals. I am currently looking into a project for a guy I know that owns his own dvd/comics store. He wanted some newer and more functional software other than the old text based FoxPro stuff he is currently useing. Adding rental functionality to osCommerce would be exactly what he needs. Good luck on the site :)

♥MYC267
I like it.... it's not a completely modded oscommerce but it's enough to have it's own unique look and feel. I love the top cornder stars.... ;) One thing I am interested in particular is the Classification search..... I want to do something similar on a field ... is there a mod for that? Obviously you have to add a column to PRODUCTS etc... Very nice... I am interested in the business model actually... are people that keen on using a service like that? Mediajuggle
Hey eureka, I was reading an article that might be of interest to you: http://ecommercetimes.com/perl/story/31824.html specifically the lines: And in June, NetFlix, whose share price has more than doubled since it went public in 2002, won a patent covering much of its business model. It could use the patent at some point to stifle competitors or, more likely, to demand licensing fees. This might be something that will bite you in the butt in the future.... Mediajuggle
You're the first "indie" store I've seen use this approach. Those in the know, know that in the United States, Netflix.com owns this space as of now and with Walmart getting into the fray and maybe even Blockbuster... Competition is going to be hot. Though now that I think of it, they don't service Austrailia. Are you the first mover in your market or is there already a similiar service there? Not being nosy... just very curious...
