Hell everyone. I am building this website for this company and only have same products on there now. I would like to get some feedback on the look and feel of the site. There is some info that is not currently present and I am aware of this. The INFORMATION BOX is one example. Just looking for ease of navigation, looks, etc.

Here is the site: Visit My Website

Thank you in advance.

Well, I think that site is almost virgin, I noticed only some changes as search box on top, boxes color, "add to favorites" button, logo and header. You need to fill privacy, shipping and other pages with some meat. It still looks like just installed.

P.S. It also gives error if you click "top".

Wikipedia has a decent article on it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_farm

Here's an example. But they come in all flavours (including web-shop looking sites). But a tell-tale sign is a lack of branding. Allowing for the same page to be used for hundreds of domains.

http://www.top4search.com/

When I see your styled text header image, and lack of actual substance and style, that is the first impression I get from the shop you are designing for your client. It doesn't look to me like a legitimate shop.

Well, I do appreciate you honesty and opinion. Granted I haven't completed everything because I have only been working on it for about a week or so. I am still getting art work, etc. from the client. So I can see where it looks like a ghost site or link farm as you stated. Two websites I am looking at for designs are target.com and walmart.com. It might need more color and some flash embedded to make it work. I don't know, but again thank you for your honesty and the above references. I will definitely take a look.

Thank you

  • 2 weeks later...

A few things for me (hope that they help)

1. You're using PNG images with transparency. IE6 and below don't support these, and they look terrible.

There is a JavaScript fix for it. Just do a google on PNG transparency in IE6 and you'll find info

2. Lightbox (your enlarge image viewer) shows the same image in the same size. There are contributions that allow you to have one small image as a thumb and a larger, different image for the lightbox. Check this site for more details.

3. The buttons are default graphics (Add To Cart, Review etc). Consider updating these to match your header style graphics and colours.

4. Header tags have not been changed. I'm looking at http://michaelscompserv.com/ore/product_in...?products_id=21 - a computer game - but the header says "Shopping Home Furniture"

5. Header logo hyperlink opens a new browser window, rather than returning home. This needs changing in the includes/header.php file.

6. You have categories with nothing in (they are default ones). Strip them out in your admin panel.

7. Shipping & Returns, Privacy Notice and Conditions of Use have no text. Add these in.

8. The links to teh products home pages all point to external sites. It might be better to create seperate pages on your own sever and point to those. This is purely to keep all traffic "in-house". Sending them to the home page may lead customers to a competitor.

Hope this helps.

Danny

Danny,

Thank you for taking the time to criticize the website. You have been probably the most helpful to me in detail letting me know exactly what needed to be corrected. I did find the png for ie very helpful and have inserted that code. I will continue to work on the rest. Thank you again.

Also you mentions to look at a site, but there wasn't a link. This was regarding the lightbox. Did you mean check the lightbox site?

Thank you again.

Glad to help.

No - the link I was talking about would be on this site:

http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...hl=large++image

This allows you to have one image for your store and a different (larger) on the popup image. I'm not sure if there's a lightbox version - give the forums a search for +lightbox +image +large

Hi guys,

we are setting up an oscommerce shop in work at the minute and I was having a look at your site, which looks well. Thing is I am having a problem that you seem to have resolved in your shop.

When we goto the products page it is saying that it is displaying 1 to 5 of 5 items however it is displaying nothing. the title on the page is "Lets see what we have here" yours is working is there a fix you can tell me about to sort it out? Thanks in advance Andy

PS: this is the page on your site that is working were I am getting nothing http://michaelscompserv.com/ore/index.php?cPath=2_19
