Hmm, you've got me on this one. My guess is that it is somehow related to the php version you are using, assuming everything is installed correctly. It isn't something I can troubleshoot in a support thread like this though.

Hi there

I have just got round to doing the now massive incremental upgrade from my first HT install of about 18 months ago :rolleyes:

So I get to version 3.2.0 and I notice that, amongst other files, it upgrades the admin/includes/application_top.php file. However, when I run it in XAMPP, the first issue I face is 'register_globals, which I can in the php.ini file. Having done that, the code stops at line 73 (I think - I'm at another computer at the moment) saying that the function 'page' doesn't exist. It's correct, it doesn't exist.

Have I missed a step? Or perhaps I should have done yet more upgrades in osCommerce itself??

That was a mistake in that version. The admin/application_top.php file shouldn't be changed.

Hi

I want add some Metatags to my old Oscommerse 2.2MS Shop. So i found the Contrib Header Tag Seo 3.2.3. I try to install it.

As i build my Shop a few years ago, installed the STS Templates. Now, in the "Install_Catalog" text file its the follow note; NOTE: STS USERS ONLY - Skip to step 1A.

Under 1A, there are the orders to replace some code in includes/modules/sts_inc/general.php. But, i dosent have this path.

Then: In includes/header.php,

FIND:

// START STS 4.1

$sts->restart_capture ('applicationtop2header'); // Capture header from the actual script, needed to take out javascript

// END STS 4.1

I dont have these code in the file. I only have:

// STS: ADD

$sts_block_name = 'applicationtop2header';

require(STS_RESTART_CAPTURE);

// STS: EOADD

Then; In your template file (like includes/sts_templates/test/sts_template.html),

REPLACE

<img border="0" src="images/store_logo.png"></td>

I have this file, but the not the code.

I guess, i use a older STS version then 4.1. So i am not sure what i should do now. May be its a solution to upgrade STS to 4.1?

Thanks

Falk

Haha - resort to trusty backup of application_top.php :thumbsup:

The instructions are for versions of STS 4.5_8 and above. They may work with previous versions but I haven't tried it. If your installation doesn't have those items, then you must have some older version installed. The people in the STS support thread may be able to point out the equivalent location in your files but you would probably be better off upgrading to the latest STS version. Either way, those questions need to be asked in that thread.

Issue with using HTML editor - in my case FCK - in admin/categories.php

Please take a look at this. I'm sure I can fix it, but it seems like a major problem that would be posted here if it is actually a problem with Header Tags SEO. I've reviewed the installation several times and not found an error. So, before I dig in and hack the code, I thought I would describe the problem here and see if it rings a bell for anyone.

As is often the case, I searched the forum carefully and didn't find anything related. After posting, I did find a post about this exact problem, but with no solution listed, but I here's a screenshot from that post which illustrates exactly the problem I am having:

problem.jpg

The site is version 2.2 RC2 and I am installing Header Tags SEO V 3.2.3.

The FCKeditor works on properly with Header Tags when editing a product, but does not work properly when editing a category.

The FCKeditor displays at the top of the category edit page instead of in the correct location, doesn't display the contents for the field from the database and when data is entered, it is not stored in the database. In fact, the editor is displayed outside the scope of the form tags, which explains why it isn't functioning.

I tried using the unmodified admin/categories.php file provided with the contribution and got the same results.

I can modify the admin/categories.php file to fix this, but this problem seems rather odd so I'd like to know:

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it possible that another contribution might be causing the problem? Since I got the same result with the provided version of /admin/categories.php, which has no additional contributions in it, it doesn't seem to be other contribution related.

What about an incorrect install of Header Tags SEO? It seems to be working correctly with the exception of this oddity, and I've reviewed the installation numerous times.

When I read the code in the /admin/categories.php file, I see some logic pertaining to this issue that looks like it could be a problem - but there are no posts about coding errors, so I probably didn't read the code closely enough.

Thanks in advance for any insight provided.

I tried it hear and see the same thing. I don't use the editor so I never checked it. I will add it to the list of things to look at but don't know when I will get to it. If you fix it in the meantime, please post it hear.

See the troubleshooting notes in the install file as to how to handle that.

Comparing the two files, the section of code referenced by the error is identical to the functioning file-that's why I posted here. The only difference is that the newer version is commented while the version I have running on the live site is not commented. Is it possible that the line counts are not accurate with error messages? I have chemos ultimate seo urls installed in that file, as well as Category Descriptions V 1.9.

The troubleshooting procedure is: replace your file with the included one and see if it works.

Yes, it works when I do that, but I lose the functionality of the previous mods. Is your recommendation to then reinstall the previous mods over your version of categories.php? I understand that you're under no obligation to support inter-mod compatibility, I'd just like to have a your mod working without giving up existing capabilities.

No, that step is to determine where the problem is located. Now you know it is in that file. And, again, the instructions tell you to compare the files at that point to try to find the problem. In most cases, you can start at the top of the file and make the changes one at a time to see where the problem begins to happen. Using a program like WinMerge, as mentioned in the trobleshooting section also, allows you to do that easily.

Yes-unfortunately it isn't available for mac. The nearest I have is the "compare files" option in an old copy of Golive. I'll try to reinstall the mods to that file incrementally and see where it gets me. Unfortunately, I have zero PHP skills so an out of place character looks just like the rest of the Greek to me. ;-)

You might want to search sourceforge for such a program. Seems like there should be something out there.

Hey i got Header Tags SEO installed on my webstore and so far the results are very good.

However, there is this problem. Since the installation, all new products i have added, somehow they don't show the tags i specify in the Addon. To elaborate, click on the link below to view a product that was added before the Header Tags SEO installation.

http://www.vmart.pk/...ion-p-1890.html

Notice the Tag "price in Pakistan". This is what i specified in the Menu and it updated all my old products. However, now click on the link to view any other product that i added after the installation.

http://www.vmart.pk/...ack-p-2689.html

Notice how the "price in Pakistan" part is missing. I tried "Fill Tags", Clear Tags and all other options available. But for some strange reason the tags won't change. Can anyone help me and tell me where i am going wrong?

Also how do i find out that i am using this Addon with optimal results. I mean is there any guide to using this addon?

Wonderful work though, Jack..

Help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, but i give up. My versins are too old. No idea how to update.

Is there may be another easy contribution where i not must change so many files? I only want add some Metatags on the mainsite.

The links you provided were not valid so I can't look at them. However, it sounds like you used one of the overrides in Fill Tags to do the initial fill. If so, that only applies to when you run it. Any subsequent products will be given the product name as the title and tag. If you want something else, you have to change it.

If you plan on making other changes to your shop, besides a contribution for meta tags, you will probably run into the same problem. Outdated code is very rarely supported and you should find a way to update it.

But if you are looking for easy, then there are another 8-10 meta tags contributions. They are all about the same - each will add meta tags to your site and all are easier to install when compared to Header Tags. However, that easiensss comes at a price since you lose a lot of the advantages of this conribution. But if ease of installation is more important than what's best for your shop, you should use one of those.

Hi Jack,

thanks for the Contri.

I can not edit the index.php (Header Tags SEO > Page Control > Select an option). To Click on View Results and "Replace me in... " still appears in Title, Description, Keywords and "page index.php?language=de" in the 1st line of the browser.

The shop requires only one language, German. The language-code from the index.php is

 require(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . '/german/' . FILENAME_DEFAULT);

Can you help? Thanks Mark

You're missing part of the code. If you updated from a previous version, then you missed that change. Try searching the update files for that addition to fix it. Although, if you missed that one, there may be others.

Hi Jack,

I have transfered the site from one server to another, and other osc sites work well.

Could you tell me something about the POST variable named "x", where it comes from? and how it works.

I know the key points of this issue if this variable.

Most appreciated.

Stephen
