Header Tags SEO

Recommended Posts

Been trying to figure out what happened. I have a clean install of OsCommerce, and installed the header tags seo v3 on there. And something happened to my store logo.

My logo is called "store_entrance.gif" located in the images directory.

I think the problem is within this code, located in the header.php file

<?php /*** Begin Header Tags SEO ***/ ?>

<td valign="middle"><?php '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT) . '">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'store_entrance.gif', (tep_not_null($header_tags_array['logo_text']) ? $header_tags_array['logo_text'] : STORE_NAME)) . '</a>'; ?></td>

<?php /*** End Header Tags SEO ***/ ?>

Right click on the logo, choose properties and verify the path/filename is correct.

Yes Sir, this is the path: http://www.oldfoundry.com/catalog/images/store_entrance.gif

But there is nothing on the upper left on my site.

www.oldfoundry.com

There's got to be some reference to that image after my seo update that I messed up on somehow, but that previous code that I put is the only thing I can come up with.

Thanks for your time in looking at this,

Jason

The code for the logo isn't on your site at all due to a coding error. Try this code instead:

    <td valign="middle"><?php echo '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT) . '">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'store_entrance.gif', (tep_not_null($header_tags_array['logo_text']) ? $header_tags_array['logo_text'] : STORE_NAME)) . '</a>'; ?></td>

Having an unusual problem after installing Header Tags SEO 3.1.8.

Test Results
Duplicate title found:  explain
for English
exists more than once.

Duplicate meta description found:  explain
for English
exists more than once.

I used to have a number of other problems, but changing the permissions to 777 and disabling the SEO Friendly URL's solved them all. All that is left is as stated above.

My problem is that my product titles are not working. I did not run Fill Tags, I just went into my Catalog and edited one product to see what would happen. I added the new Title Tag and Product Tag, but when I go to preview it the title does not show up. And when I saved it the title is gone. Obviously the "Product Title Tag" under "Meta Tag Information" is the physical title for the product right? That whatever I put in that field will be the title in my shopping cart right?

I made a screen capture here to show you what I mean.

http://screencast.com/t/NGIwNGE0NDg

EDIT: You'll notice that it is still grabbing the info I put into the title field for the page title and the breadcrumbs, but it won't post it as the products shopping cart title.

Any thoughts?

-----

One other question that has been bothering me. In Install_Catalog.TXT the final change (#10) references includes/column_left.php. Is that the right file for those changes? Shouldn't it be admin/includes/column_left.php? The reason I say this is because my includes/column_left.php doesn't have a GNU line, nor does pasting before the final ?> seem sensible.

Thanks for taking a look at this !!!!

If the tags aren't staying set, then you've made a mistake in the categories.php changes. See the troubleshooting section in the install file on how to fix that.

Dear Jack,

I have Header Tags 2.6.3 installed and they stopped working a while back. So far I ignored the problem but know I would like to rectify it. Checking on the forums I see that this contribution has been superseded by Header Tags SEO.

My question now is:

Do I completely re-install Header Tags 2.6.3 and hope it works again

or

Do I install Header Tags SEO on top of the shop I have at the moment

These are the only two Options I have. I know you instructions are very good but all I can do is follow them without digression. I am aware that you can hardly give me a firm answer considering that you don't know my shop or why HT stopped working. I am looking for a recommendation based on your knowledge of the areas where those too might overlap or interact.

Thank you for your time!

Run the update sql file and make all of the file changes per the install files. This has been addressed quite a few times in this thread if you want more detail but that is what it boils down to.

Hi,

I just saw the new Header Tags SEO Contrib. I wanted to install SEO optimation for long time a ago, but

I never had the time. :(

So now my question:

I'm currently using the old version "Header Tags Controller v2.5.6 Complete".

I saw in the update folder that there is only a update description from version 2.6.3.

So do I have to install all the other old versions of Header Tags Controller?

And then I have to install all the new versions of Header Tags SEO in a row?

Thanks for your answers.

Bye

Muecke

The instructions are correct.

Indeed it is sir. My bad, I should have double checked with the original code from the cart. Looks like it's been heavily customized.

Is it safe to slide in

<? /*** Begin Header Tags SEO ***/
 if (HEADER_TAGS_DISPLAY_SILO_BOX == 'true')
   if (isset($category_depth) && $category_depth !== 'top')
     include(DIR_WS_BOXES . 'headertags_seo_silo.php');
/*** End Header Tags SEO ***/

 /*** Begin Header Tags SEO ***/
 if (HEADER_TAGS_DISPLAY_COLUMN_BOX == 'true' && basename($PHP_SELF) == FILENAME_PRODUCT_INFO)
   include(DIR_WS_BOXES . 'header_tags.php');
/*** End Header Tags SEO ***/  ?>

somewhere into the following (my customized includes/column_left.php)? Maybe at the end?

<tr><td valign="top" align="left" style="">
<div style="margin-left:56px;">
	<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" >

Again, thank you for all your help. Right now I am in the process of checking the categories install to if all is correct.

Right now I am in the process of checking the categories install to if all is correct.

Seems to be working fine now, looks like I had made an error in my initial run through of the install. Again, my bad, should have gone through it all again. Just want to double check that is still useful/safe to plug in the code for includes/column_left.php.

Thanks!

Useful and safe? Yes. Whether or not it will work in your customized shop without further edits can only be known by trying.

I have installed Header Tags SEO .....

Did you install completely?

Check again if

1) you uploaded file header_tags_seo_install.php to your server

2) you executed the file (went to mydomain.com/catalog/header_tags_seo_install.php in your browser)

3) you have a table called "headertags_default" in your satabase

Capital letters in an error means you've missed a definition in the installation process. Double check your includes/database_tables.php file to be sure you have the required changes.

Are you sure you are looking at the right database_tables.php file? There are two of them.

Yes I even made the same changes to both of them. Still the same problem

Can it have anything to do with default language?

No, it's because the definition ins't being seen. Please post the file here from the part of the shop having the problem.

Having done the update I get the following Error Message after I used the header_tags_seo_convert.php:

Warning: main(includes/languages/german/header_tags_seo.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /srv/www/vhosts/wurmwelten.de/httpdocs/shop/admin/header_tags_seo_convert.php on line 171

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/languages/german/header_tags_seo.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php') in /srv/www/vhosts/wurmwelten.de/httpdocs/shop/admin/header_tags_seo_convert.php on line 171

I can find the contrib in the admin section but none of the old values are used in the titles, etc. Actually the path is given as title. I triple checked every step and the only thing that I am not sure about is step 12 in the update from 2.6.3:

12) Find the following in catalog/index.php

         <tr>
           <td><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_NEW_PRODUCTS); ?></td>
         </tr>

  ADD UNDER:

         <!--- BEGIN Header Tags SEO Social Bookmarks -->
         <?php if (HEADER_TAGS_DISPLAY_SOCIAL_BOOKMARKS == 'true')
          include(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'header_tags_social_bookmarks.php');
         ?>
         <!--- END Header Tags SEO Social Bookmarks -->

I found this twice! But since its about the social bookmarks, I only replaced the first occurence...

What did I miss?
