Make an alternative default.php, with a sign saying "Closed for updates. Back online at 11.00 am."

Rename your orginal default.php to default.org.php and put the other one in the folder.

Won't stop deep links though. Customers going diretly to order_history and so on.

Best Regards

olby

First design a page that looks a lot like your catalog default page, but without any links and without any file or image references to the catalog directory tree. Place this page and its images, if any, in the root directory. It should say something like "we are temporarily closed for maintenance ... please come back later."

Then, put a .htaccess in the catalog directory that denies to all IP addresses but your own, and include a ErrorDocument 403 directive that references your "come back later" page in the root directory.

Then, you can access the catalog for testing but all others will get the "come back later" page.

Coincidentally, this is a feature of the new Quantity Controller v5.0 to be able to set the store to Down for Maintenance with alternatives of allowing a customer to browse, browse with/without prices or shutting down completely.
