dahammer2
Theres no "Easy" way. theres a million people who will say there is, and make you pay for it, but there isn't. Bassically theres only a few search engines worth bothering to get into, and they don't accept paid submissions. (actually one making up about 5% does, I forget its name tho!!! And yahoo only accepts paid submissions to their directory, and don't even gurantee it for the $300 us) If you visit the major search engines you can submit your site manually, it may take 4-8 weeks to get in tho by the time the SE spiders your site. I'd goto www.google.com and www.altavista.com yahoo/msn feed use google for their search results Yahoo has a directory, but as I said, costs money to get in. can try dmoz.org for the open source directory.. takes AGES to get in, assuming you do. The most important poinT! this is not the question to ask here, this is a oscommerce forum :) goto www.sitepointforums.com and check out their forum dedicated to search engines. Read the top sticky posts in each section, then re-read them, then think about submissions :)
Guest
Thanks Hamish, Do you know where I put in my "keywords" etc in my pages so that the SE's can index properly etc ? Is there a HOW-TO on that anywhere that you're aware of ? cheers, Adam
CC
Hamish wrote: this is not the question to ask here, this is a oscommerce forum This isnt true Hamish. We want to hear all about peoples queries, OSC forums are not just for OSC entirely. One of the biggest forums on here is to do with the Google listings. But...! Bomber's post should not have been in the contributions forum. It isnt a contribution, therefore please post things like this in the General Chat forum next time please. Otherwise please do post, but make sure you are not cross posting or going over a point which has been talked to death. Speaking of which this has! Bomber, do a search for 'Google' on the forums and you will find enough reading on it to make you a very happy bunny! HTH CC.

baonguyenx
Hi, yahoo only accepts paid submissions to their directory, and don't even gurantee it for the $300 us ... Yahoo has a directory, but as I said, costs money to get in. I don't think the above statements are correct. I have registered with Yahoo Directory for free, but you need to choose a non-commercial directory (commercial directory costs $299). It took about 6 to 8 weeks to be accepted. Here is an example: If I want to submit oscommerce to yahoo, I will choose the following directory on Yahoo: Regional/Countries/Germany/Computers and Internet/Software There is a link called 'Suggest a Site' on the bottom right corner of that page, please click on that and you will have two options "Yahoo! Express' and 'Standard'. Click on Suggest via 'Standard Consideration' and then on 'Continue' button. You will be asked to fill out about your Site and Contact Information. Go to this link and you can see what I mean: http://add.yahoo.com/fast/add?38276201 That's all you need to register with Yahoo Directory Listing for free with non-commercial directory. Again, it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get in. Here is the result of search engine on one day of my site. Rank | Search Server(s) | Accesses | % 1 | MSN | 97 | 55.43 2 | Yahoo | 44 | 25.14 3 | Google | 31 | 17.71 4 | InfoSeek | 3 | 1.71 Try the following submit for Free!!! Register with MSN http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm Register with Google http://www.google.com/addurl.html Submit express http://www.submitexpress.com/submit.html Register Free-URL-Submit.COM http://www.free-url-submit.com/website_pro...ree_url_submit/ Regards, Bn
Guest
Here's my favorite traffic resource... http://www.trafficmatrix.com/ It's adult related, but they're the traffic masters...and the principals and tools work in the non-adult world as well. You can also find lots of cheap traffic auctions on eBay. While this traffic isn't often the best quality, it could be good for testing. Sometimes you can cash in :)
mattice
One of the biggest forums on here is to do with the Google listings. Nope. It deals with a specific osCommerce issue whenever Googlebot crawls you, not on how to achieve good rankings. Go somewhere else for that type of discussion I'd say.
