Shipping Costs By Item & Quantity

There seems to be a general need to be able to set shipping costs on a per-item basis. I'll add my particular scenario.

 

Shipping costs are per-item, with discounts/increases for multiples of the same item. Because many of the items share similar shipping costs, it would be convenient to create "shipping cost tables", and then assign a "shipping cost table" to the item.

 

Example:

Shipping Rules

>ShippingTable-1

Qty 1 - Shipping $5.

Qty 2-5 - Shipping $10.

Qty 6-10 - Shipping $15.

Qty 11 & up - Shipping $20.

 

>ShippingTable-2

Qty 1 - Shipping $5.

Qty 2-3 - Shipping $8.

Qty 4-5 - Shipping $10.

Qty 6 & up - Shipping $15.

Items

>Widget-1 - ShippingTable-1

>Widget-2 - ShippingTable-1

>Widget-3 - ShippingTable-2

Ideally, there would also be a Default Shipping Rule, so that any item that did not have a distinct set of rules would abide by the default.

 

If anyone knows how to implement this, I'd appreciate a note.
