Product upload almost ready:)

The product upload mod is almost done:)

I will be testing it for the next couple of days. But it looks good.

Basically what it does:

It will be a part of Admin:

<img border="0" src="http://www.ukrainianshop.net/admin.gif" width="599" height="345"></p>

You see the Excel import on the right in Tools.

Each category will be assigned a number, like here:

<img border="0" src="http://www.ukrainianshop.net/categories.gif" width="599" height="345"></p>

Each time you add a category it will be assigned a new number.

The products will need to be placed in such way:

<img border="0" src="http://www.ukrainianshop.net/catalog.gif" width="599" height="345"></p>

You hit the upload button and that's it:)

Let me know if I should have something added to it, or change something.

Looks very good indeed!

But what about tax classes? Product active? Date of availability etc?

As soon as you have a contribution ready I would love to help in making your solution even better!

Looking forward!

You can't have everything. That's why trains have difficulty crossing oceans, and hippos did not adapt to fly. -- from the OpenBSD mailinglist.

But what about tax classes?

Default, no tax.

Product active?

Date when inserted

Date of availability etc?

Date when inserted

I'm sure it all can be changed, I'm not the one writing the mod. Someone is writing it for me, I'll just make it a contribution:)

We're very close to finishing the module!

So this is what you could add before:

image

model

category code

Product name 1

Product Description 1

Product name 2

Product Description 2

Price

Latest additions:

Weight

Quantity

Date available

Have a question about the Tax Class, don't use it myself.

I think it would be easier to do this if say you have:

Tax Class 1

Tax Class 2

not like in the demo

Taxable Goods

What do you guys think? Would be easy to go to the admin and just change your tax class to 1 or 2 or what ever?

We also added new feature to how the categories are assign. For example if I have:

a category Mice and a subcategory Wireless

a category Keyboards and a subcategory Wireless

how do you distinguish between? Look here:

this is the old way www.ukrainianshop.net/categories.gif

this is the new way www.ukrainianshop.net/categories1.gif

in the new the subcategory is underneeth the category.

We also decided to move the import feature to the Catalog category, we think it's easier then having it in Tools:)

Any other requests, coments?

You are the number 1 reason why I might dump my currect site and come back to Oscommerce.

The main reason I dumped this project is because I have over 800 products and to edit them individually per page and not being able to upload in excell was too time consuming.

However, you are a demi-god. I would love to be able to get this even in the form that it's in NOW, I can modify it to suit.

If you are unable to release it to me in it's current form then how long before it's out.

PS: The new layout is better then the old.

Let there be light.

The mod is alsmost done, I would say 3-5 days if everything goes well.

I'll release it to the public, can't give it to anyone just yet. We're still testing the thing since we added:

Taxes - you can put class 1, 2, ... or none if you don't put anything (I don't use the taxes myself, so it was late addon)

Graphics - changed so that you don't have to put something in (before you had to add an immage)

Changes - when you add the same products it replaces the old, but only in the category that you specified (I have some categories with same products in them, grocery delivery to different cities - but different prices). This way it could be easier to update the prices.

Added weight - put in none and it's at 0.

That's about all I can remeber at this late hour:)

Thankyou very much, both for your prompt response and the effort that you have put into this.

In the 3 moths that I have been away from oscommerce I can honestly say that is has grown at a unprecidented rate.

Keep it up everyone, you are all putting the paid commerce carts to shame.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been looking for links but find none. What is that status of this mod?

I have around 3500+ products to upload and probably weekly update (ugh :x ). any ideas of other mods that have worked would be much appreciated!

Sometimes I wonder if people monitor their threads... that was very fast!

I look forward to the contribution. if you would like a tester let me know [email protected] and I can run it for you.

A little info in what I need to do is

1. upload 3500+ items (part#, description, price, qty, weight, image url and catagory with a couple subs)

2. a week later upload a new list with some changes and some additions.

3. a week later the same thing and over and over.

Can you tell me if since we use manufacturer part#'s (HP supplies mainly) whether those will suffice for the product ID#? because those won't change. And will your mod allow me to use these?

Our current ecom package assigns it's own in numerical order so we can't remove the tables, tiker and put them back without the products being misreferenced.

I am sure this is more of a general question so sorry to muddy the post

1. upload 3500+ items (part#, description, price, qty, weight, image url and catagory with a couple subs)

You can do part #, description, price, qty, tax, weight, image - as long as it's in your images folder, and you'll be able to put in a number of a category and a subcategory - every one will be assigned a number (read my posts in this thread).

2. a week later upload a new list with some changes and some additions. 3. a week later the same thing and over and over.

Yes, you'll be able to do that, it replaces the old with the new.

Can you tell me if since we use manufacturer part#'s (HP supplies mainly) whether those will suffice for the product ID#? because those won't change. And will your mod allow me to use these?

You mean use part#'s as product id? I use UPC's as product id's now.

Like I said read this whole thread, you'll find the info.

What do you use for using your sku's for product_id? are they all numbers & letters? Here is one of my sku's

TROY-1200-C-T

when I upload it or enter it with phpMyAdmin it automatically assigns it the next available number and ignores my sku.

Can you tell me where to look? for a fix... What did you do to have all the sku's appear as you need them?

The module will be sent to me today, I will go over the instructions and make its translated well some of it is in Ukrainian :D

And I want to make sure I can intall it myself with the instructions that came with it. Just to let everyone know it was written for my 2002-09-19 snapshot, I'm sure it will work with the newer versions and the old versions since I don't beleive it touches any core files or database comments.

I will keep posting as I'm playing with it.
