Switching from https to http??

I have installed os on my ssl space and my webspace. However when a customer clicks log in it uses the https connection and then they log in and it displays their account. Then if they deviate from that page it returns to thecatalog on the unsercure connection. Is there anyway i can setup os to purely run from the ssl side??? i have seen a few other sites doing this.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?

I mean....I login...in https mode....but, when I'm viewing the homepage, or browsing categories and product listings, I'm in http mode.

If I attempt to checkout with a product, however, it immediately switches to secure mode, as it should.

The only pages that should be secure are those that involve an exchange of information between the customer and the website. Login, My Account, Checkout, etc.

Your homepage and product listings and whatnot should not be in secure mode. If they were, no one but registered users would be able to browse your website.

I'm guessing...you want logged-in customers to STAY in secure mode throughout their visit? Is that what you're after? I'm just trying to figure out why.

Okay, I see what you mean.

A good example of that would be a website like PayPal.

As soon as you type in www dot paypal dot com, it goes into secure mode and stays that way, regardless of whether or not you sign in. But, you do have to sign in to view your account and whatnot.

I don't know how one would go about setting that up on their website, though.

Oops...I take that back. The home page of PayPal kicks into secure mode immediately because the login screen is there.

But, you can click around and view other things within PayPal without seeing the secure connection.

Perhaps, this supplier of yours didn't install their certificate right?
