I thought that it would be awesome if there was a ratings system for contributions - ratings made by staff and by users that are searchable as well (search by ratings). This might help all to find useful, even essential contributions... thanks!

This has been discussed before and there are pro's and con's as you can read in that thread. "Ratings made by staff" is out of the question, there simply isn't the manpower.
