Can you give me some feedback on the look/operation/feel of the site? All comments are taken constructively so please BE BLUNT. lol Thanks in advance. gillamb
Hi, the main problems that instantly stick out are: Banner takes a long time to load, and i am on a fast connection. Ditto the images - some didnt even load at all. You need to install a thumbnail contribution. Personally, I really don't like the colour scheme, it makes something that is potentially very nice, look tacky and cheap. No conditions of use - just get a "put here your conditions of use" Same for shipping and returns. You say in "privacy" you are protected by SSL - i saw no use of this when creating an account, the site remained http not https. Your buttons look odd on a blue background as there are areas of white that don't look right. There are no details about you - name, address, contact details etc. There is a lot of work still to do, perhaps correct some of the obvious things, and ask for more feedback when you have at least populated the basics - shipping details, conditions etc.
Guest
This is painfully painfully slow, You need to do some serious optimisation, especially on the header image which is massive. The banner that I saw at the bottom offering me some get rich quick scheme would also immediately put me off buying anything from this site. I didn't go past the index page due to the speed, but I did run a speed test on the page: Download Times* Connection - Download Time 14.4K - 89.74 seconds 28.8K - 44.97 seconds 33.6K - 38.57 seconds 56K - 23.22 seconds ISDN 128K - 7.25 seconds T1 1.44Mbps - 0.81 seconds *Note that these download times are based on the full connection rate for ISDN and T1 connections. Modem connections (56Kbps or less) are corrected by a packet loss factor of 0.7. All download times include delays due to round-trip latency with an average of 0.2 seconds per object. With 23 total objects for this page, that computes to a total lag time due to latency of 4.6 seconds. Note also that this download time calculation does not take into account delays due to XHTML parsing and rendering.
Andrew Yuen
Not only is the header banner slow, it is pixelated and looks like a poor quality gif image. I would start with putting the store in a fixed width table, creating a smaller header with more high quality pictures, creating a logo and getting rid of all the default OScommerce icons. You also are using way to many colors in your site : white, black, orange, dark green, jade green and light blue. Stick with a 3 colors. Also your buttons do not match your site the white edges are still visible! You need to convert them to transparent backgrounds to avoid that issue. abra123cadabra
You asked for it, so let me be blunt *lol*: First impression? It hit me! Everything is massive. The logo is way too big. It takes up almost half of my browser window and it constists of a repeated image that doesn't match where it repeats. Shop name is pixelated. Your product images are of poor quality when they are displayed as small images. And they are massive. Try to install a thumbnail contribution to sort this out. Ok, I don't like too small fonts but yours is the opposite. 20 is way too much. As a result your homepage is too long. The colour scheme. Not for me. Orange and blue are complimentary colours. They "bite" each other. I have to agree with the others. These colours make your shop look cheap and tacky. Actually, the black font on the blue in the infoboxes is very tiring on the eyes. It sorts of flickers when I go back to your shop from this post. Loose the counter in the footer. You should be the only one interested in these figures and they are still in the database to have a quick look. Hm. On the product details it says enlarge.... but hey, I didn't mean enlarge to more than my screen size. The cartoonish images for account, checkout and cart are floating on top of your logo. Get rid of them or replace them with something better. There are certainly more things. Some are already mentioned above so I'll not repeat that. You asked for it. You got your workload cut out for you. It takes a while to shape osC to look and feel like you imagine it should be like. Just ask yourself the main question again and again while you change things: Would I buy from my shop? abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Feedback and suggestions on my shop welcome. Note: My advice is based on my own experience or on something I read in these forums. No guarantee it'll work for you! Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong. I DO appreciate it and it gives me a place to umm.......START??? lol Anyway, now you have given me a list of things to do. I do have one question though. I have downloaded a template and was wondering........ Is there an easy way to install said template? What type of template should I be looking for or watch out for? Sorry, two questions. Thanks again everyone.
