USPS https Connection

I'm sure a number of you have received a recent email from USPS about changing access to online shipping information from an http connection to an https connection.

"As of September 30, 2006, you will be required to communicate via , instead of , for a total of 46 USPS Web Tools APIs. This change will also require you to change the Web Tools server called from production.shippingapis.com to secure.shippingapis.com."

I have found reference to production.shippingapis.com in the includes/modules/shipping/usps.php file. However, I cannot figure out how to change it to a secure connection. How do I change it to a https connection?

Thanks.

I was hoping someone else would save me the trouble of figuring this out. I know that, briefly, one replaces the various connect calls with CURL calls, and I have a working example from another module to compare against. It isn't just a matter of changing a string.

Just changing the reference WILL NOT WORK.

Has there been a solution posted???

Sept 30th will be here in no time.....

Any solutions would help.

Another thread on this topic mentions that the rate calculator is not affected by these changes.

Looking at the list it doesn't appear that it will affect us.

I haven't been able to find that thread but how can it not be effected? You are being sent to a totally different url to get the shipping costs.

I wish I knew coding more because this needs to be solved somehow. Lots of people are going to have problems if it isn't. I have one client now having issues because his pricing is off and USPS said it was due to the changes and he would need to change the code for the module.

Fellow OSCers

No reason to be concerned. I have verified with USPS that we do not need to change anything. i.e. this contrib is unaffected by this USPS server secure connection change.

After several emails with [email protected], I was informed that this change will not affect the rate API that we all use in this contrib.

I hope this clarifies the confusion.
