Cathi
I installed Unique Category Descriptions. I chose that one because as a beginner, I need something simple. I followed the instructions... created catalog/includes/descriptions, modified the catalog/index.php file, then created php files for my categories in the descriptions folder. I wrote a short HTML category description in one of the files, but it doesn't show up anywhere. Then I tried encasing it with php tags in case that was the problem, but it didn't help. Where should it be showing? (above the products when I click on the category?) Was there something else I should have done? What are some things I can look for to figure out why nothing changed? Thanks!
Wendy James
I do not know that contribution but I know there are a couple that are easy to install and I got them to work first try. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2343 http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1373 If you do not have a meta tag contribution I suggest installing header tags controller. More work but it gives you meta tags, category descriptions and changes the page headings. Great contribution. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,207 Edited May 6, 2006 by wendyjames Quote Wendy James Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Cathi
Thanks Wendy. You always answer so quickly. I looked at the Header Tags Controller, but it's waaaay over my head. I think I'm going to try one of the others that you suggested. I'll have a go at them in the morning. If anyone else knows what I did wrong with the simpler one, please let me know. Cathi
OK, so I couldn't wait until the morning.... :-" I spent 3 hours very carefully installing http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1373 step-by-step. The instructions seemed very thorough and clear. But something went wrong. I did not get the new line that should be at the bottom of Configuration/My Store in the admin tool. If I click on a category in my store, I get this error message: 1054 - Unknown column 'cd.categories_heading_title' in 'field list' select cd.categories_name, cd.categories_heading_title, cd.categories_description, c.categories_image from categories c, categories_description cd where c.categories_id = '2' and cd.categories_id = '2' and cd.language_id = '1' I'm not sure what this means or where to look for the mistake. Thanks for your help.

Thanks! I installed this today and it worked perfectly!! See it at: http://www.deepdownproductions.com/country...ia-c-23_33.html I used straight html in the php file. Is your descriptions forlder in your includes folder? Quote Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh? Cathi
Is your descriptions forlder in your includes folder? That's where I had put it. When I couldn't get it to work, I tried the Category Descriptions 1.9 instead, but I'm having trouble with that too. (maybe it's just me... :P ) I'm still working on it. Thanks! I do know that i had this problem and realized it is because you have to call it EXACTLY what the category says on the left (in your left column) and use capital letters if it is in caps on the left
