Download links incorrect - bizarre!

I have succesfully (I think) installed the Downloads Controller 5.3 contribution and am testing the free downloads aspect with an mp3.

But when I click on the 'Download' button, I get a blank page. The address at the top of the new page seems to suggest that the .mp3 is in the /pub folder, but I know it is in the /downloads folder. So I get an address for the download (or what is supposed to be the download) of this:

http://mydomain.c/catalog/download.php/ord...ame_of_song.mp3

The 24 is the order number, I assume /pub means it's looking in the pub direcotry and the .umuqdpidnjuepmt is the randomly generated part.

Here's the thing, though. I have put the .mp3 file into /downloads and into /pub - but it won't show up in either. And to make things even more complicated, the /downloads directory is secure (https://) and the pub directory is not. I'm assuming that because it's a free download it doesn't have to be secure, but I'm not totally sure about that.

Does anyone know what's going on here? I've looked through the topics and posts and the only thins I've found is that maybe the directory name in configure.pg should be /downloads/ instead of downloads/ and I've changed the names of the directories in configure.php and changed them back and... it all works out the same.

Same thing is happening to me... Someone told me that I needed to email my webhost and ask them if I've got symlinking enabled on my server, whatever that means. I already emailed them but haven't heard anything back.

Let me know if you find any help.
