Sharon_U
Hi again, Like I said, I'm new to this and stuck with another error trying to access the admin area so I can input the configurations. I'm getting the message below: 1046 - No database selected select configuration_key as cfgKey, configuration_value as cfgValue from configuration [TEP STOP] Shouldn't it be asking me for a user and password? Thanks in advance and any and all directions! Sharon

Sharon_U
double-check your databse config in admin/includes/configure.php. -jared Hi again. I'm not sure I'm following you. Do you mean I open the configure file in notepad and modify it then ftp back to my root? I noticed 'blank' code where I would type in my specific info. It's going over my head -the exact names of the paths. If example I'm so new I don't know the difference between a localhost and a database server?! Another problem I'm having is with setting the permissions on this file (got an error during new installation which I put on another posting). I read mention of an html doc with directions. Was that part of the download? Also- I shutdown my computer to go to bed and I'm not sure where the install left off. What is the next step of action for me. Like everyone else, I'm anxious to see if I can get this cool shopping cart working and getting sales asap. Thanks in advance for any and all help! Sincerely, Sharon
Guest
Sharon - - that's exactly what I mean. The database info should be the same in catalog/includes/configure.php and catalog/admin/includes/configure.php . If you're using Notepad, though, I strongly suggest you look into a more functional editor for editing the PHP files. Notepad will work, but there are much better alternatives. Personally, I like Crimson Editor. There are others that work just as well, but all have improvements over notepad. Please refer to http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/I...on_and_Upgrades . http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2565 is a good reference as well. Jared - I'm hoping you can help me with this ... My site has been running for months. But today, while trying to solve an Authorize.net problem, I noticed that the database name in catalog/includes/configure.php did not match the one in catalog/admin/includes/configure.php. I wonder why my site was even working at all, with the name mismatch? So, dumbly, I changed the database name in catalog/admin/includes/configure.php and soon got a 1046 error. Then I changed it back to what it was before, but the 1046 error persisted. I even changed the database name in both files to 'osCommerce' (which it was originally, in catalog/admin/includes/configure.php ...) and I still get the 1046 error. Nothing seems to help. The name of the database that gets customer data updates is "visual-j_1" but there is also an "osCommerce" database I can see in phpMyAdmin ... could there be some cross-confusion there? -Bob, formerly of American Fork :-)
