Custom Computer Creator

Recommended Posts

Can anyone please supply full instructions to use custom computer creator as we cannot seem to understand how the products are 'pulled' into each category and how we can alter these.

Ideally we want to change the default drop downs to suit 'Build a Laptop' setup and relevant components.

We just cannot see where to enter the products and if its in attributes, how is it linked.

The only editable area of each drop down in admin is a category number

Thank you

Hope it helps...

Step 1. Start with CCC options create some master configs (System Info) by cpu type, form factor type or whatever.

Step 2. Once created click on them now add system types (System Build Name) be it laptops, servers, workstation whatever.

Step 3 Now click on newly created System Build Name and add your configuration categories ie. CPU, Memory, Chassis, Hard Drive etc.

Step 4 Click on a newly created Category click new product and map it (you will see) from a drop down to an existing category in your shop from there you can add parts to your configurator

Thank you for your reply, but i do not have any of those options in admin!!

All we have is'Custom Computer' in admin which lists the category headers like, motherboard, processor, cdrom, memory etc etc. But no options within these except a category number that we can change to suit an existing store category, (for which we have to go to the category page in our store, to see what the category number is in the url).

Then, apparently, all the products in that category will become the drop down list - no further control.

To be honest this was done by VN2 designs, and it seems that half has been missed?

Do you have a different version?

Am i right in thinking that the only way to alter the build is via sql file so that changes everything incl any shipping slips and e-mails to customer?

No - this is not correct

PM me and I'll give you a look at a test installation - this contribution needs an update as it took a bit of work to get it running.

Hi can anyone advise on the custom creator contribution:(http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...,all/search,ccc)

not this one:(http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...,all/search,ccc)

I changed the category names and re-loaded sql ? great, but prices never updated etc, so I assume I must keep the descriptive and short names how the author had them and just change the main category names, so that it all works? Would this cause a problem elsewhere, by keeping short and descriptive names from authors original sql?

Also what part of code, in what file do I change to ensure that the drop down boxes ALWAYS defaults to ?Please Select? as this throws off to a particular product at times?

Many thanks

Steve

Hello Steve,

The one we already had installed is (not the one dootch is referring to):

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...,all/search,ccc

But you may want to think about removing that one and installing this one:

As it looks like it maybe easier to operate.

Thanks Emmett

I see Kevin is refusing to retract, is that the case?
