Best way to charge CC when ship?

When a customer places on online order, I only want to authorize their CC. Later, when I ship the order, I will actually charge their card.

 

Does this sort of thing require a Contribution or is there something in the base product?

You can choose to have real-time authorization thru most gateway programs or not depending on your preference. If you are going to ship later then 7 days later then after the authorization was obtained this can cause an increase in the discount rate, to what is known as a non-qualified transaction. The non-qualified rate can be twice your normal rate and comprise 30% of your monthly costs. There are programs available that have a ZERO non-qualified rate, if you do the research. I'm looking at Authorize.net. Care to comment on their features in this regard?

No idea, I don't use that conrib.

 

Mine (ePDQ) allows you in the admin to choose whether to Auth or Pre-Auth.

Thanks, John. Yes, it looks like I can make a simple mod to authorizenet.php, so it will send an AUTH_ONLY request instead of the default "authorize and capture."

 

Sounds easy.
