Easy Populate & Products Attributes

Recommended Posts

if you read thru the last few pages, most of the errors are dealing with the data.  try one line of data only.  post the data also.

Sorry Mibble, I musn't have made myself very clear? I'm not even able to generate the data file to download.

I've tried generating all of the files in the temp dir with the links in the EP admin but the page simply refreshes.... It doesn't generate any files to download.

Create Complete tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir

Create Model/Price/Qty tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir

Create Model/Category tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir

Create Froogle tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir

Create Model/Attributes tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir

Thanks

Mibble, or anyone who might know, any ideas on what might be the problem?

I figure its the way the spreadsheet is being formatted on save because I can upload the sample file and I get all the confirmations that new products were added (or updated).

What should it show as tab placement when opened in txt editor with hiden characters showing?

Once you have excel open (this must be done first!), then you click on open, then select the txt file, usually shows windows ansi on step 1, on step 2, select tab, and text qualifier of ", the data preview will show things below, column data format is general (same with dates). also NEVER use the $ while entering pricing. once the sheet is open, you can either auto format the sheet, hide columns you do not need to edit, format the other column widths manually, etc.

i use quattro pro when my sheets exceed excel limitations, it goes out over 18000 columns

I use OpenOffice. It does not ask what format to open the file in, it simply opens it as a txt file. The qualifier is showing as apostrophe instead of quotes. It also does not open it in typical spreadsheet format, but opens it in more of a wordpad format.

If you are not familiar with OpenOffice, it is a free d/l at downloads.com and you can open one of your files (make a back-up first LOL) to see what I am talking about. If yours looks fine, then I obviously have done something wrong in either the creation or the saving of the file.

I wish I had only a couple hundred products so I could easily just upload by hand.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to help me (and others) with our problems.

Here's a weird one.

I successfully ran EP earlier today, updating web-resident database. Then when I tried to run the same file on my local (using XAMPP) database, it only updated the first row, and returned the following message.

As you see, all the other rows show only the v_products_model field, followed by a space and the letter S.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

i dont see the EOREOR

Hi John,

The EOREOR's are all there. Like I said, the same file processed just fine on the online website.

I don't know the best way to post my upload.txt file. Would you like to see it?

Don't know if this will be helpful or not, but I just re-ran the file on the online site, so I could capture the message showing successful processing.

The uploaded file is the exact same one. The only difference is the successful process occurs on the online website. The "first row only" process occurs on my local (XAMPP) "site".

When you say "play with" the temp file location, I'm not sure what to do. My temp file locations for the online site is:

$tempdir = "temp/";

$tempdir2 = "temp/";

For the local site, I'm using:

$tempdir = "/catalog/temp/";

$tempdir2 = "/catalog/temp/";

I'll play around some more with the local settings . . .

Thanks for asking. I think you're on the right track 'cause I admit it took me a while to get the configure.php files to "work" locally.

Hey there everybody,

Just wondering if there is an easy way to deal with quotes in the product description when I upload it with EP. EP seems to be taking them and turning them into HTML. I'm sure there's an easy answer for this. Thanks.

Hey, I've scoured the search engine and found nothing on this.

I can download the test file, but I can't re-upload it, let alone a file I created myself. I get the following error every time:

406 Not Acceptable

Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /smashout/admin/easypopulate.php could not be found on this server.

What am I missing?

I just discovered, that when using Easy Populate, my Date Added field get's blanked. This isn't a big deal, but it screws up the "What's New" section of my site. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Is it created by manipulating the file with Excel, or is it from EP?

Thanks,

Chad

are you saving as a tab delimited text file?

try one line at a time to see what is going on.

double check your easypopulate.php file for any changes regarding the date in the code

Hi Mibble,

It's definitely saving in Excel as a tab-delimited file. I tried a single line of the demo file and got the same error. Help!

The date exports just fine, it is in the export file. So, I think the issue is on the import side....

So here is the code which comes from the incoming side....

if ($v_date_added == '') {
   $v_date_added = "CURRENT_TIMESTAMP";
} else {
   // we put the quotes around it here because we can't put them into the query, because sometimes
   //   we will use the "current_timestamp", which can't have quotes around it.
   $v_date_added = '"' . $v_date_added . '"';
}

I don't believe any change has been made to that area. All the products end up with a date added of "0000-00-00 00:00:00".

Here is the INSERT statement:

$query = "INSERT INTO ".TABLE_PRODUCTS." (
products_image,
products_image_med,
products_image_lrg,
products_image_sm_1,
products_image_xl_1,
products_image_sm_2,
products_image_xl_2,
products_image_sm_3,
products_image_xl_3,
products_image_sm_4,
products_image_xl_4,
products_image_sm_5,
products_image_xl_5,
products_image_sm_6,
products_image_xl_6,
products_model,
products_price,
products_status,
products_last_modified,
products_date_added,
products_date_available,
products_tax_class_id,
products_weight,
products_quantity,
manufacturers_id)
VALUES (
'$v_products_image',";
// chad added for image support
$query .="'$v_products_image_med',
'$v_products_image_lrg',
'$v_products_image_sm_1',
'$v_products_image_xl_1',
'$v_products_image_sm_2',
'$v_products_image_xl_2',
'$v_products_image_sm_3',
'$v_products_image_xl_3',
'$v_products_image_sm_4',
'$v_products_image_xl_4',
'$v_products_image_sm_5',
'$v_products_image_xl_5',
'$v_products_image_sm_6',
'$v_products_image_xl_6',
";
// end chad added for image support

$query .="'$v_products_model',
'$v_products_price',
'$v_db_status',
CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
$v_date_added,
$v_date_avail,
'$v_tax_class_id',
'$v_products_weight',
'$v_products_quantity',
'$v_manufacturer_id')
";

Here is the export line from Excel, which includes a date added:

234	products/bracelets/th/flowered-byz2.jpg	Flowered Byzantine Copper Bracelet	"This copper bracelet combines the Byzantine pattern with the unique flowered chainmail pattern to create a stunning new bracelet.  The Byzantine used here is our Micro size and together with the simple flowers we create a beautiful, dainty design fit for any lady with style."   	 35	0  7/8/2005 18:00	0	2	Beads	7	Faux Pearl  8	None  9	Faceted Glass Ball Black  15	Black Tear Drop  16	Copper Finished Fire Polished Glass Ball  17	Antique Copper Finished Glass Ball  18	Black Jade Ball  19	Hemitite Ball  20	Hemitite & Blue Glass Balls  3	Bells	1	Brass  2	Copper  4	Ear Wire	10	Niobium (Copper Finish)  11	Surgical Steel  12	14k Gold Fill  13	Sterling Wire  14	Sterling Post  5	Length	21	16 Inches  22	18 Inches  23	20 Inches  24	6.5 Inches	0	25	7 Inches	0	26	7.5 Inches	0	27	8 Inches	0	28	8.5 Inches	0	Copper	Bracelets 	 Taxable Goods	Active	products/bracelets/med/flowered-byz2.jpg	products/bracelets/flowered-byz2.jpg	products/bracelets/th/flowered-byz4.jpg	products/bracelets/flowered-byz4.jpg	products/bracelets/th/flowered-byz.jpg	products/bracelets/flowered-byz.jpg       	 EOREOR

Everything looks correct to me, unless excel has messed with the date format, but that appears correct too...

I found that its v_status

and when i added that column and also set it to Active

other columns;v_status;EOREOR

blah;Active:EOREOR

how come it wont set all of my products to Active? Anybody know how to fix this please? or know how to run a sql statement on the database to whatever is set to 0 for non-active to active?

After doing that I still have about 500 products that are inactive and nothing changed after putting Active in that column, i also even tried a 1.

Anybody please help?

Hi,

I have a problem with easy populate.

I installed and everything works nicely until a certain point.

I can download the file (tab delimited). I can upload it. And the uploading works.

The only problem happens when I try to add a subcategory or new product.

I have 3 category levels. (ie. level1 > level2 > level3 > 'products here')

Any new subcategory or product from a subcategory of level3 get inserted as a level1 category.

So instead of having:

level1

>level2

>>level3

.....old_existing_product

.....new_product

I have:

level3

.....new_product

level1

>level2

>>level3

.....old_existing_product

[Legend: >, >> subcategory; ..... product inside prev subcategory]

Can anyone tell me what is the problem. I cannot figure it out.

Thanks, cbp

Problem solved. My administrator tells me it's a security script that's the culprit.
