I am having some Easy Populate issue, here is my error when I try to upload a file:

Warning: move_uploaded_file(/home/photowo/public_htmltemp/EP2004Jul27-0012.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/photowo/public_html/catalog/admin/easypopulate_functions.php on line 32

File uploaded.

Temporary filename: /tmp/phpuAdvMe

User filename: EP2004Jul27-0012.txt

Size: 91601

Warning: file(/home/photowo/public_htmltemp/EP2004Jul27-0012.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/photowo/public_html/catalog/admin/easypopulate.php on line 651

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/photowo/public_html/catalog/admin/easypopulate.php on line 674

All my permissions are set, all my files are there, I have used EP on other sites with no trouble, but this one is really being a pain.

Can anyone help?

Thank you,

Cory

Thanks Mimi, that was usefull input.

We will consider using EP to export to Excel and then to Access.

Any other comments on the workflow issue ?

i did look in "THE" database you probably need to understand, there are tons of databases out there of osCommerce and i will have tons to play with.

as in a prior post this will not work:

fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis kompakt/halado amator/E8700f.jpg you have spaces in between the names . do yourself a favor, and rename these to something less lengthy. why do you have fenykep... /nikon/digitalis . and so on, why not nikon/digital/dkha/e8700f.jpg or something even shorter.

we told you no spaces in the paths, etc as that does kind of mess things up . . .

I changed the spaces in the path before unfortunately I quoted an earlier message to show the model# lenght.

The fact is that I have this 64 character limit in the image path and product name fields.

The cut is happening after using EP to upload and insert the txt files into the database. Is there a way or variable in either EP php file or to control or set the lenght of the column fields?

the field length is not set in ep, it is set in the database

That's it. :D

I looked in my database with phpmyadmin and I found these tables with the following settings:

Database eware - Table products_description running on localhost

Field - products_name

Type - VARCHAR

Length/Values* - 64

Attributes

Null - not null

Default**

Extra

Database eware - Table products running on localhost

Field - products_image

Type - VARCHAR

Length/Values* - 64

Attributes

Null - null

Default** - NULL

Extra

These settings controll the lenght of the image path and products name?

Is it possible to change values from 64 to 96 or 128 without risking the smooth operation of OsC.

personally i would not do it, you can try but you have to look at it from the users perspective also, with how many characters across does your web browser address window go?

also, the more characters you go across, the slower the site is, as there is much more data to parse each time, and the server has to read each and every single character. thus a shorter length is a much quicker load than a longer one. think of someone using a site with 20 characters and someone using 128 characters. the one with 20 characters will load tons faster than the 128 character one.

you need to think of what you are doing to the operating system also

You're right.

But my dealers send their pricelist monthly in an excel file and I dont have time to check every sheet for long product names. Especially for Microsoft's 1500 products.

Hard times coming! :)

And thank you for all your posts!

you will then need to check every file for the spaces, etc, so what is the difference? i use numerous distributors who i get price sheets daily from, and they know the industry well enough that there are no spaces, other characters which will cause problems.

and with a vb script, it is easy to manipulate the columns into the right spots necessary.

John(Mibble), I was wondering if you could give me a hand with a problem I'm having.

I added a new field to easypopulate called v_products_cost. I followed the directions closely. when I update a product the field is updated correctly, but if I

add a new record, the field is left empty. I have looked and looked over easypopulate.php and cannot find where I made my mistake. Would you mind taking a look and tell me what I left out. I am using version 2.74 and everything else works find. I can post the file here if you want. Let me know. Thank you for your help.

the best thing to do is look at where you added the v_products_cost and make sure it is in the file in all the required places, also in your spread sheet make sure there is not a $ in front of the values, the field needs to be defined as a text field.

you can post it if you wish.

I checked for those things and the fields appear to be correct. Here is my file and thanks John.

Just want to be sure I understand as I really could use such a feature. Right now, out of the box, easy populate is not setup to work with price break...But if i want to try it is possible to get it to work but no one has done it yet. Well then let me ask, what are you all doing about price breaks? We have standard breaks at 12 and 36 quantities. If I install easypopulate as it is, can I go back to each product and manually add the additional prices once the database is loaded with easypopulate? Any help or advice appreciated. There is no way I know enough to even begin to try to modify the code to integrate with price break contrib. I can follow directions pretty well, but Im no trail blazer for sure.

If this is in the wrong thread, shoot me. Okay I have a new install of OScommerce 2.2 MS2 and I'm trying to get easy populate 2.74 to work. Now I have the files in /admin/ and I get the initial html form with the text boxes for upload and the links for the download. But the links do nothing when you click on them, the URL's for the link appear in the location bar of my browser(either Firefox 0.92 or IE 6) but all I get is an empty form, nothing indicating success or error. If I try to upload a file, it has a progress bar like it is uploading but nothing shows up in the temp directory. PHP is choking on something and failing silently. error_reporting() with E_STRICT or E_ALL doesn't spit anything out. Now for the info:

alrighty then, I have searched the forums and pm'd all the authors that claim to have ep configured to work with the price break contrib. As soon as I get it to work Ill post here for all those that are still trying to get the price break features to work with ep, wish me luck and im off...

I have a working copy of easypopulate (thanks for the contrib and for all of the support!) My question is about the unique model number that is required for each product.

I am trying to sell replacement parts based on a diagram that lists all of the parts. Often the same part will appear in the diagram SEVERAL times. (Like a screw that is used in more than one place.) Each individual part is identified by the model number AND by a unique diagram number (which I added as a new field). The diagram number is necessary to show where the part appears.

When EP sees the same model number twice it overwrites the first one. Is there a way to modify EP to look at more than one field to see if the product is unique? That way I could have EP import several database entries with the same model number without overwriting the previous ones. Also, when I need to update the database, it will still overwrite, but it will be based looking at two fields.

Any ideas? If I am not clear, please let me know.

I have problems importing data from a file using Easy Populate:

I have 3 languages on my store and descriptions don't import into the right database table columns. I have looked at the code, so there is a question:

why developers chose cryptic column names for importing like v_products_name_x, where 'x' is a number? column name could be like 'v_products_name_<language iso code>', e.g., v_products_name_en for english, v_products_name_ru, for russian.

Maybe it's done intentionally, to get some profit from paid support :-)

And by the way, Easy populate cannot be used when 'register_globals' is off, I had to modify it to work when 'register_globals=off'

regards,

Aldevinas

kshop, the only reason i can think of why the column starts with the letter v is the author's initials are vj

oscommerce does not work with register_globals=off, thus that one is a moot point, in order for you to be able to install the application you had to get that working.

DavidE, why not use the diagram number to further define the part with the model number in ONE field, then you eliminate the need for rewriting easy populate.

previously posted problems exporting any kind of DB using ezpop.

ok... my document root is paragonleather-www/catalog/.....

however it wasnt until i loaded in a theme that i had any problem whatsoever... but im not getting rid of that theme either...

the temp is paragonleather-www/catalog/temp

like i said though it recognized where it was just fine and worked just fine without my having to mess with it at all before i installed the new theme... the them itself only changed files inside catalog/images and no where else...
