Guest
filemaker pro costs money. lots of people use openoffice which is available freely. also most poeple do not have a mac, using a pc, thus not using macosx <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, Filemaker does cost money. Money well spent if you have a store to maintain. Filemaker Pro is available for PC and Mac. And any db program would be better than Excel. My simple point was "why are people using excel instead of a db". Thanks.
Geordiedan
Valid question Greg - and if anyone is running a store of any size at all then they should be thinking the same. My client runs a very large store, and uses Datafile Diamond for their stock/order management - they export a tab delimited file from there which in turn is inserted into EP. One of my next jobs is to set up a scheduled task/FTP on their side to coincide with a timed cron job on the server to run EP and update their stocklevels automatically :) Dan
AllTheAbove
Hello all.. I have done several searches (maybe I am using the wrong keywords) but I have not found an answer. I downloaded the complete file so I could add products. When I try to open it in Excel, it says it cannot fully load because it is too large. Well, as I scroll to the right notice that it has v_attributes_options_name, v_attributes_options_id, v_attributes_options_price a total of 185 times along with all the other fields. How do I reduce this?? On a side note, what fields am I supposed to be designating the x-sell stuff? I do not see a field that says xsell or crosssell or anything like that in the spreadsheet. Thanks Lori
Guest
you have to add xsell to ep if you want it to be used. you can use quattro pro 12 to open the file, else you will need to download without the attributes.

I added the mod a few pages back that said to use winmerge (or something similar) to add the xsell into the php file. I did that.. I also have xsell installed on the admin side.. As for opening.. I am more interested in getting rid of about 170 of those fields and not just finding a program to open this gargantuan.

Guest
An expert here can probably help better but I can offer this: Have you downloaded a file yet? Assuming you've got some product in your db use ep to download a tab dimited file and then look at it. Use a plain text edit program like notepad, don't use word. You'll see your data and each field will be "separated" by a tab char (which you can't see- thou some editors allow you to turn on "hidden" chars in order to "see" them). You can also open the file in excel. You'll see the field name as the first record. One you've seen this downloaded file and understand it better then try to upload the same file and see what you get. Then add ONE item to the file using the other data as a template and try to upload that. You'll get the idea... I'm new to this also but I hope this helps.. Geordiedan
Here's your data in tab delim format - as advised, try just one product, and make sure your easypopulate.php has the commented code changed to set it to tab delimited instead of semi colons. As an aside, your "ECU 2003 Miata, M/T Only" is missing a price and is throwing that line out. raddygast
I have a really simple question. Why is it that if you use SPecial Pricing Per Customer, the extra fields that denote the price for the various non-retail customer groups are only downloaded if you do an EP abbreviated download, i.e. model, price, qty? They are not downloaded when you do the "FULL" download. That seems really strange, and irritating if you want to do full downloads as product database backups. Geordiedan
I may be wrong, but don't you have to configure your easypopulate.php to download the additional (non-standard) fields?
raddygast
I may be wrong, but don't you have to configure your easypopulate.php to download the additional (non-standard) fields? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have both new fields added, and SPPC. EP downloads the new fields fine (and uploads them) because I've configured that stuff in easypopulate.php. The special pricing stuff is also configured, but for some reason it only downloads it in that abbreviated model/qty/price mode, which is confusing. You'd expect it to download all the special price fields in all modes, since pricing is a really important concept, and if you're updating once price, you'll probably need to update them all. Gumpy54
ok, I seem to have been reading for hours, not only this thread, but after searching the forum; every other reference to this contribution too!! I have gotten this tool installed and working......up to a point. My temp dir is set up and is set to CHMOD 777, as stated in all the readme's and forums. I did the following --> I added one product, with as many categories, attributes etc as any of my products might need. Create Complete tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir Downloaded the file via FTP from the temp dir. Added my other products into the correct sections as per the first product. Split the file using Easypopulate and ended up with the following... Creating file EP_Split1.txt ... Added 300 records and closing file... Creating file EP_Split2.txt ... Added 300 records and closing file... Creating file EP_Split3.txt ... Added 300 records and closing file... Creating file EP_Split4.txt ... Added 300 records and closing file... Creating file EP_Split5.txt ... Added 300 records and closing file... Creating file EP_Split6.txt ... Added 300 records and closing file... Creating file EP_Split7.txt ... Added 114 records and closing file... You can download your split files in the Tools/Files under /catalog/temp/ I can ftp to this folder and all these files are there.... However..... When I attempt to import one of the above filenames, I just get this ... Filename: EP_Split7.txt at the top of the Easypopulate page, with no message as to whether any records are entered into the database. And, upon checking the stroe, there have indeed been no products added to the database... I only have one language set up, English (just for ease of setting up Easypopulate) I have not uploaded any images of my products yet (waiting till the store is designed.) Everything seems ok, as I have stated. What can I be doing wrong... I can provide a section from the text file I am using to upload if you need it. Please dont be shocked, but I am to be selling 'Adult' toys.... I have removed, or put a \ before every ' in my text file too. Can anyone PLEASE let me know where I am going wrong? As soon as I can get this working, I can go on to the design of my site and the other things that need to be done. Thanx in advance.... Gumpy54
ok, I have also been through my text file and changed every tab (for this is how I exported it from excel) into a semi-colon (as this is how the exports from Easypopulate seem to be) Ill let ya know how I get on..... It seemed to be cos I was using tabs and not ; Anyway, for those having a similar problem... Replace all ' with \' Replace all " with nothing Replace all tab delimiters with semi-colons. Now it should work if everything else works fine. This has saved me sooooooooooo much time. Thanx :D:D
AllTheAbove
do you use product attributes with your products? you can go in and edit ep to specify which files you want to dwnload, or you can turn off product attributes altogether in the ep file <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, I found out (sort of) what happened. I loaded a sample file where the products had several atributes and values. How do I make OSC recognize that the attributes are the same. Example from this file.. Notepads.. they come in 5 sizes and each size has 5 colors of paper and 5 colors of ink. There are also options for monogram or a small text field at the top of the note. What happened is that EP created a brand new attribute value and option for each instance. So, instead of there being one blue which applies to all sizes for paper color, there are 25. It created a paper color for everysize and every ink color. It did the same with ink color. My question now is how do I get EP to see that ink color=blue only needs to be an attribute once? BTW, these were all contained in drop down boxes and were duplicated. Example.. When you went to the product to select options it appeared like this product 213456 ink color - dropdown box ink color - dropdown box ink color - dropdown box ink color - dropdown box paper color - dropdown box ink color - dropdown box price There was no place to indicate whether you wanted any sort of text applied. I realize it is most likely a result of how the spreadsheet was created. I am only using it as an example of how to set up my products and did not create it. Oh, and if it makes a difference, but the fields in the spreadsheet were like this v_attribute_options_id_1 v_attribute_options_name_1_1 v_attribute_values_id_1_1 v_attribute_values_price_1_1 v_attribute_values_name_1_1_1 v_attribute_values_id_1_2 v_attribute_values_price_1_2 v_attribute_values_name_1_2_1 The thing is, going down the rows, they were all the same. Like for options_name they all said paper color. I guess I am trying to find out if this is always going to do this. Also, when it uploaded, it applied Paper Color as a return address option for one of the default products that comes with OSC. How do I get it to show Paper Color = White one time instead of several hundred? Ok, I think I have rambled enough.. Hope this made sense! Thanx :D:D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes to the remove apostrophes and quotes, but far easier to change your easypopulate.php to tab delimited instead of semi-colons - you did read the install notes, right? ;) :P
Guest
ok that is your mistake, the semicolon's, this needs to be tab delimited, which the last full upload should be, you can edit your easypopulate.php file from semicolon to tab. also set your document root in the admin/includes/configure.php to $DOCUMENT_ROOT then set your path accordingly at the top of the ep file ok so i am a little late, was doing things from my email and not looking at all the thread. glad to see you got it working Edited August 25, 2005 by Mibble
