♥Vger
Thing being I already have a ready oscommerce site on which I want to add the whole ebooks at once, can you shed some lite on how to do this please. No, I can't. This thread is only for people who are having trouble getting osCommerce installed. Vger
CrazyFun
I'm really sorry this question has already been asked, but I've read through hundreds of posts and haven't found and answer to my problem. I'm trying to run osCommerce on a local server, using Xampp. I've managed to install osCommerce, but I can't seem to password protect my admin folder. I tried using .htaccess and .htpasswd files, and I'm fairly sure that the code was correct. At first, when I would try to go the the admin area, it would ask for my password, but would register it as incorrect (i assume, since it would ask three times, then give me an error page stating that my access could not be verified). But now, it comes up with a different error page. "Server error! The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script." Do you have any idea of what I'm doing wrong, or how I can fix this? Guest
I'm posting this here so that people who need to can find a quick Installation Guide for osCommerce. It goes a bit further than the Installation Guide in the Knowledge Base. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's the quick install guide. 1. Create a blank database via your web hosting control panel. 2. Download the osCommerce 2.2 MS2 zip file from the downloads section of www.oscommerce.com, unzip it and extract the 'catalog' folder. 3. If you want your shop to be available at http://www.yourdomain.com/catalog then upload the whole of the catalog folder to the root directory of your website via FTP. If you want the site to be available at http://www.yourdomain.com then just upload all of the contents of the catalog folder, but not the folder itself. 4. Make sure that the permissions on all of the folders are set to 755, and if that does not work then set them to 777. Make sure that the includes/configure.php file and the admin/includes/configure.php file are set to 777 for the duration of the install. Once the install is complete reset to 644, 444, or 400 depending on your server setup. 5. Then go to http://www.yourdomain.com/install and begin the install procedure. Your DB Server will probably be 'localhost', your db user name and password (for mysql access) will have been provided to you by your web hosting company. The name of the database you already know - because you just set it up. Do not enable SSL, elect to store sessions in the database and not files (untick the box), and do not enable persistent connections. 6. After the install create a folder called 'backups' inside the 'admin' folder (via FTP), and delete the install folder. Reset permissions on the two configure.php files. 7. Password Protect your 'admin' folder using the Password Protect feature in your web hosting control panel. Away you go! Vger Hmmm. away we go damn i wish that true Hello all, you can stop laughing and you can get back of the floor and yes another newbie G'day, well i have managed to get threw all of the steps after hours upon hours of reading replies and questions (used all of them to get threw it :)) but i cannot find one that would answer my question i completed steps 1 - 7 and got to catalog and admin bit thats my problem nothing past here if i go to www.mysite.com.au/catalog/ i get a plan scramble representaion of the os ecommerce and cannot go anywhere on the links no images just real basic ok i deleted it and started again thought i screwed something up installed 1-7 np's damn i thought back to the hours it took me the first time to a couple of mins ya done same problem the only represetaion of the site was under www.mysite.com.au/catalog/ ok i'm new my web page is www.mysite.com.au/html/ (that html folder has to stay) so in turn my install directory is www.mysite.com.au/html/catalog/install/ know i have changed it i ftp'd the contents from catalog to www.mysite.com.au/html/contents installed it again with www.mysite.com.au/html/install in step 4 www address i used http://www.mysite.com.au/html/ Webserver Root Directory i assume is right because it lets me proceed done completed installation followed the documentation....pdf completed 6 then 7 if i click the admin it takes me to http://www.mysite.com.au/html/admin/index.php = HTTP 404 - File not found if i click catalog it takes me to http://www.mysite.com.au/html/index.php = HTTP 404 - File not found but if i go to www.easygames.com.au when it loads i get a plan scramble representaion of the os ecommerce and cannot go anywhere on the links no images just real basic oviously its something really simple i have missed and if this has been addressed i'm sorry about that thanking you for your time, cheers ashley

♥Vger
You only tick the ssl tick box during the install if you have a full ssl certificate. Check with your hosts to see if they provide a shared ssl, and if so what the pathway to it is for your website. shellqc
I've followed this guide, and I'm getting a rather annoying error that I still can't figure out what went wrong. I uploaded the Catalog folder to my host (Godaddy.com, using the Deluxe package), I set up a MySQL account. Once I get to the part of the install where I enter my SQL information, it says it's fine, and then the next page tells me it cannot find install/oscommerce.sql, although the darn file is there. Any suggestions? Hi Vger, I am on windows hosting and I used the above advice (the real path) to get through that step. Now my problem is the last step...it created my tables and connects to the database fine......I don't think it wrote the info it was supposed to in the two configure.php. ♥Vger
Neither of those files was written to by the install procedure. You can either run the install agin, making sure that the configure.php files have permissions of 755 (and that you don't repopulate the database again), or else you can go to the Tips & Tricks forum where there is a thread on how to set up your configure.php files manually. yaani
Vger, I am having trouble installing osCommerce. I have FTP'd the catalogue folder to my root dircectory. When I go to http://www.mydomain.com/install I get the following error "FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!" I have read previous posts but am having trouble understanding the fix. I have a shared hosting account so I don't know if I have access to enable the global registers? I have downloaded the Register Globals Patch Files. Do I FTP the entire catalog folder in the patch files & write over the existing folder? Thanks, Yaani-Mai
