[CONTRIBUTION] Ultimate SEO URLs v2.1 - by Chemo

Recommended Posts

Alright since this was not working and shutting my site down, I decided to just uninstall it.

Now I have an issue because of this.

Can anyone tell me what this message is trying to tell me?

You were probably only one step away from getting it to work.

Why don't you try to install it again?

Why don't you try to install it again?

Mainly because it shut down my entire site with exception of the home page. So if anyone came to my site to purchase anything they would get blank screens with error messages on them and leave.

So I figured I would see if anyone here came up with any ideas and then reinstall it.

The installation process doesn't bother me, it doesn't take long, but I can't have a non working site in the mean time

Alright since this was not working and shutting my site down, I decided to just uninstall it.

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/content/f/l/a/mysite/html/includes/functions/html_output.php:330) in /home/content/f/l/a/mysite/html/includes/functions/sessions.php on line 102

Now I have not touched the includes/functions/sessions.php page so I don't see any reason for line 102 to be messed up. And I used the backed up contents for my html_output.php page so there should be nothing wrong there either.

There is an on/off switch in the settings so you shouldn't have had to uninstall it.

See the link in my signature for that error. It usually means an extra line was added in the editing process. The failing file is includes/functions/html_output.php at line 330, which is usually the last line.

Okay that was it. It was an extra line or two at the end of the file, guess I got sloppy copying and pasting the original code back.

Thank you.

I just re-installed it and I am getting the same original problem.

I put the Ultimate SEO URL code at the bottom of my htaccess file (didn't think it would matter, since it didn't mention anything in the instructions)

Here is my htaccess page:

# $Id: .htaccess 1739 2007-12-20 00:52:16Z hpdl $

#

# This is used with Apache WebServers

# The following blocks direct HTTP requests in this directory recursively

#

# For this to work, you must include the parameter 'Limit' to the AllowOverride configuration

#

# Example:

#

#<Directory "/usr/local/apache/htdocs">

# AllowOverride Limit

#

# 'All' with also work. (This configuration is in your apache/conf/httpd.conf file)

#

# This does not affect PHP include/require functions

#

# Example: http://server/catalog/includes/application_top.php will not work

<Files *.php>

Order Deny,Allow

Deny from all

Any ideas why the home page is working and the categories/product pages are giving page not found errors?

I just re-installed it and I am getting the same original problem.

It usually doesn't matter where it is placed but it can. Try backing up that file and then deleting everything except the changes for this contribution. Be sure to get the first few lines:

Options +FollowSymLinks

RewriteEngine On

RewriteBase /

If that works, then something else in the file is conflicting with the changes for this contribution. In that case, try putting this code first and deleting parts one at a time to isolate the prolem.

Nope didn't work. I tried erasing everything but the

RewriteEngine On

RewriteBase /

and then having the Ultimate SEO URL code and it didn't work.

When it tries to pull up the new page and gives the error File Not Found, the url is changed from the standard osc product url to the name of the product but it is throwing a letter and number after it (for example, www.mysite.com/product-name-c-26.html) is that normal? Or could that be a clue as to what is going wrong?

You have ..

Options +FollowSymLinks

RewriteEngine On

Twice . .these must appear only once.

I would steer clear of adding lots of code to .htaccess if you don't understand the basics . . can cause all sorts of nasty problems.

I even tried to remove the duplicate ReWriteBase / and it didn't seem to matter either.

Ok

Look I don't have time to look through all your htaccess garbage so ..

1) Remove all garbage leaving just the seo urls code and try ..

If it fails then say so here and pm me your web address and I'll take a look.

Hi,

Firstly thank you for a wonderful contribution to OsCommerce.

I am currently progressing with SEO for my site and have been asked to see if the URL can be changed slightly by a consultant.

There is an option to add the category to the product name which is good however can this be changed to show like this:

www.mysite.com/category/sub_category/product.html

Or something similar to this?? In the world of SEO this would not just be a great help to me but also everyone else who has this contribution installed.

Hope I have been clear and that we can make some progress with this.

Thanks

James

That url looks OK, though I don't understand what you mean by . If that is part of the url, then it is incorrect. Just to be sure, I know godady said mod_rewrite was enabled by default, but they also usually put new sites on a Windows server by default too. You have to be on a Linux server for this code to work so you should verify that. If that is not it, please post your full .htaccess file that you are using that just has the code for this contribution as well as the url of your shop.

I just placed the c-26.html in bold for viewing in this forum to show the specific section I was referring to. So you're saying that the url is fine when it looks like www.mysite.com/product-name-c-26.html, I was concerned about the c-26.html part

And yes I am on a Linux server.

I usually (always?) go for the most recent version of an add-on because I assume it's the most advanced. In this case, it was a Polish version of Ultimate URLs. Since my site appeared to work well, I applied the add-on to a number of my other osc shops. After I found the admin section was in Polish, I started the process of trying to uninstall the Polish language and install the English version. Initially, I removed the two maiin files and selected uninstal in the admin panel but the Polish was still there and the site was still using Ultimate URLs so I assumed it had something to with the cache or the language being in the database. Anyway, after deleting and uploading the English version of the two files, selecting uninstall in the admin and checking the front end of my site a number of times eventually the Polish disappeared. After installing the English files once again, the English suddenly appeared in the admin. I couldn't work it out step-by-step because what worked one time, didn't work the next. All I can say is keep trying and you CAN get rid of the Polish and get English. Sorry, I can't be more help.

Hi cutie, saw your post.. you had polish version too and now u install the english version...

i think i had the same process like you with the polisg version , i try uninstall by clicking "Uninstall Ultimate SEO" change the value from "false" to "uninstall" and nothing happen. So i revert back the process by editing back those files back to orginal

All the above back to orginal

after edit back to orginal, i delete the 2 files..

includes/classes/seo.class.php

I just placed the c-26.html in bold for viewing in this forum to show the specific section I was referring to. So you're saying that the url is fine when it looks like www.mysite.com/product-name-c-26.html, I was concerned about the c-26.html part

And yes I am on a Linux server.

That's normal. You can read back through the thread is you want more information since it gets asked quite often.

To get redirects to work, you have to make a change to the .htaccess file and the code. This contribution has code in place for some of the contributions but not all. It does have code for Page Manager, which might be the one you are referring to but I know there is another contributuion that uses similar names. So if you are using that one, it won't work without editing the code.

You can't do it with this contribution. That is poor SEO though so I wouldn't suggest it. But if you really want it, one or tow of the other url rewriter contributions work that way.

Hello Chemo

I used your Ultimate_SEO_URLSv22d_10_PL at a danish website.

The problem i have is that when i write the danish links in original, i dont get in the url.

See an example:

å - should write aa in the URL

ø - should write oe in the URL

æ - should write ae in the URL

How can i make it work like this ?

Kind regards Jærg-Owe Schneppat

Do you know what do I have to edit? What(& where) lines do I have to add, so it works at my host?

At my local host is working perfectly, but not at my host.......Do you know what could I miss?

schneppat - the person that uploaded that version isn't supporting it, at least I haven't seen it, so you are on your own with any problem or questions about it.

trasgoverde - the changes are in the includes/classes/seo.class.php file. You can use one of the other additions as a guide but otherwise you are on your own.

You have stated on a number of occasions that path based Seo Urls are bad Seo practise. I see no evidence of this at all, perhaps you could elaborate.

after i delete the 2 files,

includes/classes/seo.class.php

admin/includes/reset_seo_cache.php

i revert back the process by editing back those files back to orginal, Now in the front end, i still could see the SEO error message and the SEO fucntion.
