[CONTRIBUTION] Ultimate SEO URLs v2.1 - by Chemo

Recommended Posts

You state your shop is locate in a directory named catalog - http://www.website.com/catalog - but your .htaccess file shows it is in the root - RewriteBase /. The instructions tell you to enter the directory the shop is located in. It even provides an example using catalog. You may want to take another look at that.

Hi Jack,

Here is a copy of my .htaccess file. Any help is appreciated.

# $Id: .htaccess 1739 2007-12-20 00:52:16Z hpdl $
#
# This is used with Apache WebServers
#
# For this to work, you must include the parameter 'Options' to
# the AllowOverride configuration
#
# Example:
#
# <Directory "/usr/local/apache/htdocs">
# AllowOverride Options
# </Directory>
#
# 'All' with also work. (This configuration is in the
# apache/conf/httpd.conf file)

# The following makes adjustments to the SSL protocol for Internet
# Explorer browsers

#<IfModule mod_setenvif.c>
# <IfDefine SSL>
# SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" \
# nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \
# downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0
# </IfDefine>
#</IfModule>

# If Search Engine Friendly URLs do not work, try enabling the
# following Apache configuration parameter

Hi Jack,

I have your contribution installed. I also re-named some of my urls. For example http://mysite.com/new-name-c-20.html, but http://mysite.com/old-name-c-20.html still works. I am concerned about this duplicated content issue. I did some search and found someone posted a validator contribution. Can you please tell me if it will work with yours? Secondly, I would like to see your view on this old url and new url issue.

Thank you

If you are using my version, going to old-name-c-20.html should work but the url should be changed to new-name-c-20.html and a 301 entered.

I am sorry, I am not quite sure what you mean. I am using your version. It works, and also works when I change names. Howver old names remain works too. I guess what you meant was I should have 301 in place to redirect old urls to new ones. Is that correct? also what's the best way of doing 301? Sorry, I have never done a 301 before. Thanks

The way Ultimate SEO determines the page to display is by the id in the url. So c-20.html is all that's required to show that category. But the code will check to see what name should really be there and insert it. At the same time, if that name was changed, then it issues a 301. Try this:

- go to some category or product page on your shop.

- click in the url and change the name - just add a character is fine - and press enter.

If the url is changed to the proper one, you are all set. If it doesn't, you have the wrong version of the contribution installed.

hey jack,

i'm using your latest contribution. Everything seems to work perfectly other than when you turn the contribution off (enable seo urls = false). When you do that the categories on the site do not work anymore.

i'm also experiencing problems with the paypal shopping cart ipn contribution. The order status does not get updated when the ipn are received.

do you know how to fix these issues.

thanx

The main off setting doesn't work on all servers for some reason (I haven't had time to look at that). You need to disable all of the settings if you want it turned off.

This is the support thread for Ultimate SEO. Other questions should be asked in other support threads.

thanx for the fast response. what exactly do you mean by disabling all features? uninstalling it?

the paypal shopping cart ipn contribution is no longer being supported so this is my best chance of finding a solution to the problem. is there something that has been changed that might affect ipns since it worked with previous versions.

any input would help.

Hi Jack,

They load fine for me also but Server Header gives a 404.

Test it out HERE by entering http://www.chinasold.com/cell-phone-c-25.html.

You'll see that the server response is a 404. Therefore googlebot thinks that all my pages are 404 and none of them are listed now.

Everything is ok and returns 200 if Ultimate SEO URL is off.

From what I've read, it seems that a previous post mentioned that he/she had the same issue and was able to get it resolved but no detail on the resolution.

Thank you for all your help.

Oh, I understand now. There's nothing in the contributions code that should cause that that I can think of. My guess is that either your .htaccess file is causing a problem or your server isn't handling headers correctly. Try stripping everything out of the .htaccess file except for the lines included in this contribution. That will elimiate that file.

right now my USU display like this in 3rd level categories

domain/subcategory1/subsubcategory1-product-p-xx.html

so the root directory is ignored

how can I include the root directory ?i have set the "Add category parent to begining of URLs" option TRUE

I don't recall if I added that but I don't think so. It can be done but the code would have to be edited. You need to be careful with this since any benefit the extra keywords in the title might give could be lost due to the very long url's they would create.

I don't recall if I added that but I don't think so. It can be done but the code would have to be edited. You need to be careful with this since any benefit the extra keywords in the title might give could be lost due to the very long url's they would create.

Jack
