cookies not being eaten, sessions not sessioning

Recommended Posts

Hi -

I'm having some serious problems with a live site. I've had to put up a dumb disclaimer telling customers to call in their orders, because the site won't let them populate their shopping cart.

I don't believe this is an SSL vs. non-SSL session issue; it's just sessions in general are not working at all. Cookies are being created, and sessions are being added to mysql; but it doesn't amount to anything. It appears the session information is not being read.

This all started to happen when we moved the site to a different ISP. The client discovered the problem, and I'm having all sorts of trouble figuring out what's wrong. I can't add any items to a shopping cart, and I can't log into an existing customer account. Or rather, I can log in, but the next link I click on immediately logs me out again.

Here are the cookies & sessions sections of configure.php:

  define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://www.pearlseacompany.com'); // eg, http://localhost - should not be empty for productive servers
 define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://host9.globalnameservers.com/pearlseacompany'); // eg, https://localhost - should not be empty for productive servers
 define('ENABLE_SSL', true); // secure webserver for checkout procedure?
 define('HTTP_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'www.pearlseacompany.com');
 define('HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'host9.globalnameservers.com/pearlseacompany');
 define('HTTP_COOKIE_PATH', '/');
 define('HTTPS_COOKIE_PATH', '/');
 define('USE_PCONNECT', 'false'); // use persistent connections?
 define('STORE_SESSIONS', 'mysql'); // leave empty '' for default handler or set to 'mysql'

I've tried a bazillion different options for the cookie domains and paths, all to no avail. Maybe there are others?

Any help or pointers is greatly appreciated. Thank you -
