Geordiedan
Hey guys, I've narrowed my choice of PSP down to WorldPay and ProTX Now I've contacted both, and looking at the facts I have here I can't see why anyone would ever use WorldPay - so I'm guessing I'm missing something! My Merchant Account is set up via Streamline - to upgrade that to eCommerce will cost me a one off upgrade fee of ?50, with 3% on credit cards and 55p on debit transactions. ProTX have two options for me: ?20 per month for up to 1000 trans/quarter - "small business" 10p/trans for useage of over 1000 trans/quarter, but no monthly fees - corporate user. WorldPay however: ?200 setup fee ?30 per month, AND 1% on credit cards, 13p on debit transactions Now is it just me, or do WP fleece you for both a monthly rate AND a percentage cost (over and above that charged by Streamline) as well as the hefty setup fee?? :o How are these guys still in business?? Hopefully I've missed something really basic here - but looking at the "plain" facts I just can't see it... Any help appreciated, Dan :)
Geordiedan
Anyone?? :'( I don't mind if I am being stupid, I just need to know!
Hkanaris
Try using Protex without a Merchant number. Worldpay know its not that easy to get one, so they use that to their advantage. They will give you a merchant number therefore allow you to trade, but fleece you in the process as you have no choice. Trust me there killing me I been with them for a year, but rest assured im now almost in the position to getting my own merchant id number so im going to protex.
mark27uk3
Why not try HSBC e-secure payments, they gave me a very good quote indeed. I suppose the quote depends upon how much business you are going to put their way. My quote was as follows: ?200 setup fee ?20 per month (security submission charge). 3% on credit cards and 34p on debit cards, with the money being transferred into my account within 3 days. I also am getting stung by worldpay and I am going to change over as soon as I have got my new site up and running with HSBC. The only condition that HSBC impose is that you must open a business account with them. Mark  Quote Lifes a bitch, then you marry one, then you die! Geordiedan
Cheers guys :) The business already have a merchant account through Streamline - they can upgrade for ?50 and get an Internet Merchant Account pretty easily. So I take it WorldPay are a bunch of cowboys then? :-" Anyone else have some thoughts on this? ATB, Dan
mark27uk3
I would not say worldpay were cowboys, they provide a very efficient service its just that prices are a bit on the steep side. Hkanaris
I agree worldpay are not cowboys, they have served my business well, they are just expensive because they have no competition.
Enzo_UK
The business already have a merchant account through Streamline - they can upgrade for ?50 and get an Internet Merchant Account pretty easily. Having a merchant account just means you are allowed to take payments over the internet, it doesnt mean that Streamline will provide the payment Gateway... You will still have to use a third party payment service provider. I have a internet merchant account with HSBC and pay them 1.6% on Credit Cards, and 19p on debit cards. But on top of that I have to pay another 1.5% to Secure Trading
