Originating URL: not showing in User Tracking

Recommended Posts

I installed the User Tracking contribution, and everything works great except that the Originating URL is empty in all of the sessions.

The only thing I was not clear about in the installation instructions was this section:

 add to catalog/includes/application_top.php   Look for:
     add after:
     // user_tracking modifications
   if (!$referer_url) {
    $referer_url = $HTTP_SERVER_VARS['HTTP_REFERER'];
        if ($referer_url) {
    } This last bit allows us to track the originating URL (where the user came to your site from).

I found 3 instances of tep_session_start(); in the file, and so added the requisite code after each of the 3 instances.

Any ideas why I am not seeing the originating URL anyone?

If you look in the application_top.php file that is part of the download you will see where the code should be inserted.

Note: the install instructions are misleading.

Also note that many entries will not have a referring URL. But the ones that do are valuable information. It's great to be able to see the keywords used in google and then how deeply they scan the website -- let's you know if those are good keywords to target.
