/ instead of ? or = when appropriate in links

It appears that when I added more products to my site, the after effect is na inability to navigate from the site (works fine under admin)

 

The error is:

 

Error!

 

Unable to determine the page link!

 

I am going nuts - Any help, guidance or sympathy appreciated

works fine, but the links on the page refer things like:

 

/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/29 (yes / replaces ? and & or =) OR

 

 

Did I miss something, because this site WAS working wonderfully

Turn off search engine safe URL's and it works again....arghhh
