500 products - B2B Store - Please Review

Recommended Posts

Please review this new B2B store. I would like opinions on functionality and overall ease of use. Thanks!

Nice looking site, but you have virtually no search engine friendly features,

so I think it will be difficult to see your site ranking high at the engines

despite the seemingly easy keywords that you are targetting.

See example of seo-friendly urls, links, titles and meta tags at

the experimental for now:

I'm not sure what Matt is referring to but you do have the meta tag contoller in place. You also have a site map and several products listed on the main page. Very nice site, I don't have time to create an account and take it for a test run. So here are some naggy things...

- Your logo seems a little small for such a professional site. The bottom of the logo also seems clipped.

- I would move the pricing and other info out of "Contact Us" and give it its own page. Just to help people find things easier.

- Lets say you click on the "My Account" tab. Now click on any other tab or link in your header. Your SSL stays with your navigating even though its not required. Hope that makes sense.

- Your "Advanced Search" label has 1's on either side and dsiplays the default OSC button.

- You have a 1 in the label for "Search Help" also.

GREAT JOB!

*Note that these download times are based on the full connection rate for ISDN and T1 connections. Modem connections (56Kbps or less) are corrected by a packet loss factor of 0.7. All download times include delays due to round-trip latency with an average of 0.2 seconds per object. With 46 total objects for this page, that computes to a total lag time due to latency of 9.2 seconds. Note also that this download time calculation does not take into account delays due to XHTML parsing and rendering.

Analysis and Recommendations

TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 46 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.

TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 43 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.

TOTAL_CSS - Congratulations, the total number of external CSS files on this page is 1 . Because external CSS files must be in the HEAD of your HTML document, they must load first before any BODY content displays. Although they are cached, CSS files slow down the initial display of your page.

TOTAL_SIZE - Caution. The total size of this page is 101929 bytes, which will load in over 8 seconds on a 56Kbps modem - or 20.51 seconds. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Be sure to provide feedback for pages over 30K by layering your design to display useful content within the first two seconds. Consider optimizing your site with Speed Up Your Site or contacting us about our optimization services.

TOTAL_SCRIPT - Congratulations, the total number of external script files on this page is 1 . External scripts are less reliably cached than CSS files so consider combining scripts into one, or even embedding them into high-traffic pages.

HTML_SIZE - Caution. The total size of this HTML file is 38930 bytes, which is above 20K but below 100K. With a 10K ad and a logo this means that your page will load in over 8.6 seconds. Consider optimizing your HTML and eliminating unnecessary features. To give your users feedback, consider layering your page or using positioning to display useful content within the first two seconds.

IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 52362 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS.

SCRIPT_SIZE - Caution. The total size of your scripts is 2823 bytes, which is above 1160 bytes and less than 4K. Consider optimizing your scripts and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.

CSS_SIZE - Caution. The total size of your external CSS is 7814 bytes, which is above 1160 bytes and less than 8K. For external files, try to keep them less than 1160 bytes to fit within one higher-speed TCP-IP packet (or an approximate multiple thereof). Consider optimizing your CSS and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.

MULTIM_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 4K.

Thanks, I took a look and removed one of the links from the bar so it didn't wrap down a line. Part of the problem is still there, but do to the jumpto menu.

Got any ideas on how I can fix that without having to remove it?

Thanks for catch.
