Guest
Something caused my UPS module (default, and now UPSCoice) to fail to connect to UPS server. Anyone else had a problem connecting? I know the settings are okay, cause it's been working for over a year. It's just now (after a recent server reconfiguration) throwing a "bad server response" in Apple's Safari browser, and Firefox for Mac is not timing out, but not responding with the request data. This is more a question on how to phrase the question to my server admins. The two files of interest seem to be ups.php and http_client.php. Guest
your server admins can tell what is going on via the server access and error logs, and you can turn on sql logging in the admin/configuration/logging area of osCommerce, to see what is going on from the sql aspect. Guest
As well, can someone in plain english explain why I should choose to switch to the UPS XML module? After reading some I'm wondering if the http://www.ups.com/using/services/rave/qcostcgi.cgi us even still working. (although were it not this forum would be inundated with posts I think). Thanks for any help, Cameron

Right, I've got my access and error logs, but they're not showing any (even failed) attempt to connect with http://www.ups.com (which is a okay because they only show access to their respective server, and not every connection out). Anyone have a script to open, request, connect with the UPS server with a test? Otherwise, I'll make one quick.
Guest
(sql logging looks good also -> storing customer, cart, session, etc.) The process breaks on Checkout_shipping due to some issue with connecting to UPS.com...
Guest
Can someone who is using UPS shipping module (default or UPSChoice contrib) with MS2 please let me know if it is still working and connecting to www.ups.com over http? Thanks a bunch, just troubleshooting the connection to UPS. - Cameron

sfatula
Yes, the default UPS shipping module is working for me. Quote Steve
mugitty
can someone in plain english explain why I should choose to switch to the UPS XML module? For my money, 1) it has been suggested that the non-XML version may no longer be available from UPS at some point in the future 2) if you ship larger packages, the dimensional support is a lifesaver (or margin saver) 3) I believe that the stock module fails to figure in the extended area surcharge, whereas the XML version includes it Now, if we could just get someone to add the UPSChoice feature to the UPSXML contribution and add the dimensional support to USPSMethods, life would be so much simpler. (oh, and fix the Time In Transit that has been added to UPSXML, as it doesn't send all the required fields to the server as it is currently written) Quote ... if you want to REALLY see something that doesn't set up right out of the box without some tweaking, try being a Foster Parent! sfatula
I hate the dimensional weight option (well, I guess I shouldn't as it's an option). It's far less accurate for us. To properly implement it, you have to have the correct box sizes you use, and, a very sophisticated packaging algorithm. But that's another argument! If you ship larger items, one very simple solution that is just as accurate is to simply put the dimensional weight into the weight field. Right now, the UPS XML host seems to be down, is it working for you? I am getting no rate quotes on two different sites. So, that would be a reason NOT to convert I suppose. Don't forget the XML module does NOT include insurance, a problem if you sell expensive items. Quote Steve
Guest
Thanks all. Turned out my server was have a really, really quirky bug with apache/php and http POST. It was affecting not only UPS.com connections, but also Verisign.com payment processing connections. Switched the site to another server in the datacenter and all's well that end's well. And thanks for the advice about XML UPS - I'm going to stay away as long as HTTP POSTing is still available.
