Canada Post shipping module for 2.3.1

Good to know.. I'm always leery of trying to fit mismatched versions together since it can quickly become a nightmare. I wound up grabbing this.. http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/391/v,22 , Dated 23rd September 2009 , Labled CanadaPost Shipping Module v2.2; Except it has only the file for the modules/shipping directory, there is no corresponding languagfe file in the download. I may be able to create it, but if anyone has ... /include/languages/modules/shipping/canadapost.php ... laying around, I'd a preciate a peek at it.
  4. Was hoping I'd find a nice straight forward shipping module for Canada Post ready for 2.3.1 by now. Seems very few add-ons are getting upgraded beyond 2.2, or possibly, going straight to 3.0 Anyways, is anyone running OSC 2.3.1 and using a Canada Post module ? I really don't need any extra bells and whistles. Has anyone had success upgrading a Canada Post module to work with OSC 2.3.1 ?

    AJAX Attribute Manager support

It should be a UNIQUE index, rather than a plain INDEX. I believe you have the correct column names in your 2 column index, I'd have to double check and don't have time right now to be 100% sure If the table contains duplicates, when you change it to UNIQUE, an error will occur indicating which row caused the error. you should be able to delete one of the dupes and attempt the change of the index type again. Once all dupes are removed, you should never get dupes again.

Sounds like they are adding a new option/value pair rather than adjusting an existing one... Not a solution, but you could add a unique index on the 2 columns involved.. resulting in a duplicate entry error if that is indeed what causes the double entry.

    AJAX Attribute Manager support

I never ran into the double attribute bug, but despite it's handiness, it is a quirky mod and simply takes some changes in how you use it. In my case, we found it necessary to flush the product data and start over until we got it right. Sadly that may be the only way to get it right. As the previous poster suggests, do what I call the basic product entry first, name, description, pic, price. basically everything except attributes. Once the product has been saved, then go back and add attributes. Get familiar with the attribute templates. Likely some of your products have at least somewhat similar attributes, and loading a template and tweaking it for a specific product is often much faster than entering them all from scratch. The original OSC product attribute page should not be used at all.
  8. Anyone have any suggestions how to solve a particular problem? Here's the scenario.. Running OSC 2.3.1, and have this shipping mod installed UPS XML Rates and Services v1.4 (http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/7848/v,23) The problem.. we want to offer free shipping on a few products. Setting their weights to zero doesn't work, it results in in a UPS XML request for a 1 pound item. Package weight is also set to zero, so that isn't the cause. I also can't use this mod to bypass the shipping page (Zero Weight Skips Shipping http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/3480 ) Our products are primarily for construction contractors, and the shipping address is not usually the same as the billing address, so we must maintain the option for the customer to specify a shipping address. I'm thinking I can somehow edit /catalog/includes/modules/shipping/upsxml.php to skip the XML request but thus far have had no success.

    AJAX Attribute Manager support

Looks like the language file content. Just a hunch but. . . . Triple check that all files were uploaded to the correct locations, and in ASCII/txt format, not as binary files. It almost looks like the opening PHP tag was removed from the language file
  10. I'd be happy to as soon as I've finished my current project, paid my rent, taxes, fed my cat etc.
  11. Ok, I actually got it to work, but I'll stand by my statement, QC on submitted add-ons is lacking. Particularly documentation in this case. eg; if some of your products already have attributes, you will need to flush all option/value related tables in your database and re-enter them using the new method... and of course the new method isn't documented either.
  12. Perhaps, although I've spent the past 5 years working with previous versions of OSC, and have probably installed over 300 contributions in a variaty of combinations. If I may ask, What is the link to the contribution your are talking about ? Is there some undocumented step, or pre-requisite add-on for it ? Does the documentation actually tell you everything you need to know ? I'm working on 2.3.1 with only one mod, so if the instructions are in fact accurate, I guess I will try again.
  13. Perhaps I'm not clear. There seems to be little to no quality checks on submitted the add-ons. Maybe the code is great, but the documentation is inadequate or incomplete, or vice-versa. The add-ons I need, the ones I have tried, although they state they are 2.3.1 ready, aren't. As in, after installing them following the directions provided, they simply do not work. The AJAX attribute manager is a glaring example of this. States it is 2.3.1 ready, and using the instructions, which seem to be missing some steps, or perhaps neglects to mention perquisite add-on. After installation, no way to add new attributes, then experience the joy of un-installing it. also not covered in the documentation. Maybe the code is stellar, but without the documentation to get it working, it is worthless. Like I said, the only add-on I've successfully gotten to work uses mod-rewrite, and minor tweaks to the html_output function, adding it certainly doesn't get you far under the hood of 2.3.1 And yes of course I know 2.3.1 is different, which is why I'm trying to find working add-ons specifically for this version. While I'm no PHP dummy, I'm on the clock creating an ecommerce site for a client. At this point I'm just about ready to scrap it and start over with an older version of OSC Also, 2.3 != 2.3.1 sorry to sound jaded, but having a pile of working code congeal into a bowl of spaghetti does that to a person.
  14. After using previous version of OSCommerce to create clients site's I decided it was time to move to a newer version. Now I am regretting that decision, because there are so few add-ons for v2.3.1 that actually work. In fact the only one I can say that works is "Ultimate Seo Urls 5 PRO" and even that gives a harmless error in the admin panel. Granted I have not tried all the add-ons for 2.3.1, just the ones I actually want. What's worse, some add-ons claim to be compatible , but aren't, such as the Ajax product attribute add-on. After installing it, I couldn't add any more attributes to products. Any hope of someone else reviewing current add-ons? especially those that were most widely used for previous version of OSC? If I ever get caught up on current projects I will definitely adopt an addon, and work to make it 2.3.1 ready, but right now I simply don't have the time.
